My Type R engine bay clean up
Its been bugging me for ages that my engine bay has been an eye sore.
After much money spent on a re-build at APi a while ago. After the re-build the engine bay was very clean, but It had alot of mapping sessions at this time of the year, when the roads were covered in salt which alot of the crap found its way under the bonnet. On top the usual daily grime, it was starting to get to me.
Also been motivated by a few of the other SWS lot, you know who you are
Now it was time to get it sorted and more easy on the eye
Before pic's
1st to give the engine clean to get rid of all the grime and grease, used Meguiars super de-greaser and P21S autowash and various brushes to get in all the tight spots
2nd to strip off brackets, intercooler pipes and anything else I could get power coated. Changed my mind with the Turbo heat shield as Did'nt think it would last long
Ordered a load of stainless steel fastners etc, small bits but make a big difference!!
Still got a few more things on my wish list to get and fit but I'm a good way there.

Looking good.
I was thinking about removing my intercooler pipes and a few other bits to get them powder coated.
How did you managed to do away with the clamp on the pipe to the manifold? Is it a different pipe?

There obviously a bad epidemic of cleanenginebayitis in SWS these days.
Nice to know that you still care.
Put something back on the pipe by the battery terminal Si - or buy an Evo battery [ MBZ 42 ] and have the extra space, so there is no chance of a short.
Happy travels - David APi

Cheers Si,
It,ll be all change again in 3-4 months, i,m going 2.5 with the car, thankfully bits like the Motec ecu, AP`s, Clutch, Cooler are already on, still needs the PPG though, so that with the Forged build will RAPE the funds again....

Si,
What power is yours making mate and how do you find it in a Classic as a road car??
I,ve had plenty of big BHP cars including my last Evo which was running Autronic, FP GREEN etc @ 470bhp/443 FT/LB But because that was quite a heavy car it almost didn,t feels it,s power if you understand me..
WHERE-AS my classic now with only 350/345 feels alot sharper, obvioulsy weight reasons and i guess just how raw the car is, i do wonder what a 400+ classic must be like, can,t wait to find out mind you... 42 yrs old and still a big kid..
