I'm trying to dig out an old one of mine (on another hard drive - somewhere!)
Big dirty hole in the side of the block, bits of rod hanging out and still running sweet. (apart from a bit of a miss!)
When I opened it up one day I found the piston was no where to be found

No Mate it was caused by a poor gear change when I first converted to a six speed on my RB5.
Went from 7000rpm in 4th and tried to select 5th and hit 3rd by mistake.
That was the result!! The valves collided with the pistons and in this case broke the valve head clean off.
They were forged CP Pistons. It also took out my 1200mile old VF34 too.
I was gutted at the time and it was the catalyst for my now well travelled DIY tuning path

This one was due to an overtightened conrod bolt (I believe), that came loose and seperated the conrod from the crank. Big cloud of white smoke. Still managed to limp home on 3 pistons and would start afterwards. Didn't sound too healthy though!

headgaskets after 270 miles and a set of bearing that didnt like the engine! Car got boost upto 1.6 bar. Lots of white smoke and knocking! Good times!
If only the trader had told me he had slyly rebuilt the bottom end before he sold me the car!
the bearings, well the ones that actually remained!
