I use a Sony DSCF55 which cost £300 quid a couple of years ago.It does 2.2 megapixel and resolution upto 1600x1200.I took some pics with it on Saturday at Oulton Park and the weather was crappy but the pics came out ok.I used the lowest resolution setting on my cam (Which is 640x480) for the pics cos they are quicker to upload and view via dial up connection.Have a look here for the few pics that I took.....
Should give you an indication of the quality of digi cams. (Remember it's on the lowest res setting though!)

P.S: The connection to PC is via serial cable so if I have one recommendation to you - Get a camera that connects via USB cos it's much quicker to download from the cam to the PC!

i use a minolta Dimage s304, it's a great thing, can get some very big pictures at great quality through it. though I only ever use it on 640 x 480, but at fine quality, gives pretty good results. Also has a movie capture facility which is great, especially for trackdays. ok, so a max of 60 seconds, but i took at least six clips of at least 5 seconds and it still had lots of space left.

Agree about the connection to PC. gotta be at lease USB, or better still get a card reader, which plugs into the USB (or firewire - as is mine ) port and thus saves battery power on the camera when downloading, plus it means you can have a media card in the camera and one in the pc, so whilst downloading stuff you can continue taking pics.

if I had a laptop then I could do full picture and video editing when at a trackday, now that would be cool!

The new fuji camera is the daddy, peaking at just over 12mega pixels, you would have to buy about 30 64 meg cards or a whopping microdrive if you are gunna use it at full res.

Canon Powershot A10 - simplest and cheapest digital camera that Canon do. Didn't know how much I was going to get into this digital photography lark, so I bought a basic model. Quality is very good - I've had loads of comments on the pictures I've posted here.

The photos on this thread were taken with the Canon.

It took me while to decide what to get sony/canon/fuji in the end I got an Ixus V from askdirect for £319.

Pics are nice but I only use low res at the moment.
Does video .avi
Has an Li-Ion battery as standard. Seems to last a long time.
Comes with some good software.
Made of Stainless Steel and feels solid.
Fits in the palm of your hand its about the size of a credit card but a lot fatter.

Well impressed.
I am sure there are cameras with better resolutions but this fits in your pocket its tiny.

Totally love the camera and i think its the best camera for under £300.

Would love a Fuji 6800 but at twice the cost of my camera decided against it!
