Crypt - I am not in the business of taking up the time of these good people by posting whimsical replies

what made you move from an evo to an impreza?
Now I will ...
1) ... be able to drive more than 100 miles on a tank of fuel
2) ... be paying a 3 figure sum for insurance
3) ... avoid having to hunt for SUL
4) ... have six gears
5) ... have a new car unfamiliar to the local constabulary
6) ... be able to drive over small bumps on the road without putting my back out
7) ... be having my car serviced at realistic intervals
8) ... have a warranty which is worth the paper it's written on
I'm editing this because reading it back, it seemed like I was being a bit negative toward the EVO.
I loved driving the EVO right up until I parked it at the Subaru dealer for the last time. I'll miss its frantic performance and its precise handling - in other words, its general quickness. I'll also miss its agressive looks.
These are areas in which (I believe) the STi will lack / differ a wee bit (although not by an order of magnitude).
The list of points above, however are issues which were beginning to wear me down a bit when it came to living with the EVO every day.
I believe I've now got a better car in terms of my current needs and circumstances.
I have no time for "this car is better than that car" ranting arguments. Every car has strengths and weaknesses but more to the point, every car owner has his own agenda.
Apologies for the epic post in what is probably not the correct forum ... but stavros did ask - blame him

Nice car(s) Numptie.
And as an EVO driver myself I can't actually argue with any of your comments there. I'm just not ready for a change yet
Once again nice cars. Would be interesting to here a sort of "Driven" comparison when you've run the new one in a bit.

X SOOOBY - I have driven an E7 and they are, without a doubt, terrific cars. The majority of the points I listed above though IMHO still apply (although I believe maybe the warranty deal may be improved). The fact is though that the characteristics of the cars are not a secret ... i.e. :
STi : Excellent and practical
EVO : Excellent and mental
Read magazines, drive both (if you're near Aberdeen you can have a shot of my STi without a problem) speak to peeps, make a decision and buy one.
The only thing I can confidently say is that whichever way you go, you will not be disappointed

dazz1 - I have strong views on your proposal ...
Do it !
Do it as soon as practicable !
You will not be disappointed
If, sometime in the future, you reckon you'd like to go back - do that as well
Get after it man
You have my recommendation

For the sake of good order, SteveM's post was submitted after I'd edited mine (i.e. added the comments below the line in italics}.
SteveM - no disrespect but I don't think I'll publish any views on performance comparison. It 'aint apples with apples.
If you want a frank view on how the STI's doing though, ask me in a week or so in the Muppet Forum (I rarely venture out of there).
Gotta get out of here now - I don't feel comfortable in a sensible forum
