Here some pics of my STI Type R V5. Got 9000km's on the meter. Direct imported from Japan 2010. It will be running with Link G4 PnP this year.

I have the plate (we both have small Swedish plates) in the same position and have looked up my intake temp in my Simtek and it was so low that I doubt it would make that much difference to remove the plate. I had a Saab 900 with 421 hp which had the front bumper covering almost 2/3 of the IC and it was just fine too.
I think it looks tacky when you put the plate higher up but that's just me.
