yip, some folks fit them where the top mount is removed from when you fit a front mount. but i can't figure out why you would want to remove a cooling device and add one thats even more critical.
How does the oil cooler read the oil temp, thermostat?
Also how do they work, i mean how cool do they keep the oil, the oil has to be at a certain temp?
Thanks
Sam
For reading temp you need to install a temperature sender into the bloke usually by taking out the plug above cylinder No3 and installing the sender there along with a gauge in the car and as for temp wise the stat like the one in the water system has a set temperature it will open and allow the oil to flow through the cooler which is around 80'c.
The cooler can help to keep the temp of the oil down by about 5-8'c I would have thought and also get the water temps down by about 3-4'c
There are very few cars that have oil cooler's as standard mate, although quite a lot of automatic gearboxed cars have a cooler on the box to aid transmission cooling.
Tbho tuned newage scoobs are more prone to the oil getting hot and need a cooler rather than classic's unless you track day the car on a regular basis then it is a good idea as when can you ever really give the car the amount of abuse it would see on the track out on the road and not for the sustained periods.
today it was a warm ish day outside, on a easy drive down the m-way @ 65-70 my oil temp was 98-100 deg, and water temp 90-92 deg and i feel for a soft drive it was to warm, when i was in a 30 mph the oil temp was down to 95 deg.
if i give it some hard driving, it soon goes up to 100+
