I think you need to do more practice fella. Your second attempt was a little better. Must try harder me thinks

Thanks for the comments folks, glad you like the vids.

Really pleased to see how agile these things can be, even in standard trim.

If you drive it very smoothly it will understeer at the limit, but with a bit of a flick it'll slide quite easily :-)

Oh yeah? Can you post it, I'd like to see it :-)

Indeed it's not great for the tyres, but it's good to get a feel for the car :-)

I've seen that one on YouTube a few times and I must admit it does sometimes creap into my head during a slide - it's a good reminder to get back on the power and wind the opposite lock off in good time!

Is the driver of that car a regular forum user? I'm sure it's been discussed to death, but I'd like to find out:

a) was he able to fix the car (I'm fairly sure he wasn't injured)
b) what does he think went wrong? It looks like he didn't have any throttle in and was perhaps a bit too late winding the opposite lock off (easy to say afterwards, much less easy to think of during a slide!)
c) was the slide intentional or did he lose control of the car mid-corner

Actually it was a very nice slide and he did well to hold on to it, just a shame it flicked back on him!

Yes my Road insurance covered me on the Track (they no longer do that for new customers) about £10K bill

my friends wife was passenger and tyre wall did its job no-one hurt

What went wrong here isa list of **** poor excuses

1) I was using a little flick to dial out the understeer (no DCCD) but doing this on every corner for four laps heated up the tyres and Pressures through the roof.

2) The fatal corner a little too fast in, a little too late on the Brakes, the tyres giving up grip and I'm now sideways and missed apex by a country mile. ( Purely driver error)

3) visiting a senario I had not encountered in 4 years of trackdays I do two further mistakes, 1) I frooze for a second and looked where the crash was going to happen,. 2) I lost were the steering wheel was by using push pull technique

4) As the speed is being scubbed off, i apply more power and wheels start to get grip back BUT the front wheels are on lock and not straight ahead as i thought. 300bhp now pulls the Car into the tyre wall, but too late no tarmac left, just grass and BANG

no it was not intentional, meant to be just a little flick, overheated tyres, tooo much enthusiasm and not enough Skill

I have had some training since and my hands NEVER leave the wheel so ALWAYS know where front wheels are pointing. I could save that car now, OK it wouldn't be a pretty "drift" but would be saved.

my car now is a Type20 06 JDM with DCCD so not the same issues as the 2002 UK Sti NON-DCCD

IMHO

Once or twice but always comes out the same pure driver error. Too much enthusiasm and not enough skill. I still enjoy myself and reckon a far better driver now.

Got to admit, as a competent (I think) road driver through 20 years of driving experience, but not a racing or even track driver since I've never done it, it was interesting to hear a detailed description of what actually went wrong, as this was an almost identical crash as one I had back in 1994 when I just passed my test, and being honest, to this day I had no idea what I'd done wrong!
