I thought that the standard foglight covers for the RB5 looked a bit budget and old. I'd like to know what you lot think

Here's what the standard RB5 covers look like (Not that you need reminding):

...And here's what my new ones look like:

Which do you prefer?

I presume you have removed the lamps. If not, how did you do it?

Yup that looks cool

I'm not too keen on the way the PIAA's kinda stick out a bit too far, you have to take them out for the covers to go on by the looks...

Question

Yeah, you do have to remove the PIAA's to put these on. I never used them anyway, so I much prefer it with these covers.

Prodrive stickers in white would have looked nice.

Also get rid of the orange bits on the front of your car!

Did you get a signwriter to make up the RB5 stickers for you??

Yep, I got a dign writer to do both signs.

I intend to get the Prdrive sticker on the back changed to the same blue instead of grey as it matched the interior.

If anyone has an RB5, I would suggest that you make this little mod as (in my opinion) it makes the spotlights look a lot less budget and dated. Plus, it is cheap, it cost me £60 for the covers and £15 for all four stickers.

Question

Rich,

How easy was it too remove the PIAA's? I've an RB5 myself, but need the spots for all the backroads here in Winter. If it's not a huge job, I might do the mode for the summer.

It looks way much better than the naff one's they gave us as standard.

If you pull each light forward (As they are on Hinges), you will see that there are three screws behind them. They are probably very tight, you can use a socket set on them, as they are hexagonal, which is alot easier and stops the risk of damaging the screws. There are no nuts on the back of the screws, so there is no worry about losing stuff inside you bumper. The light, and its backplate simplycomes out, it is extremely easy, you then unplug the light wires and cover the socket in insulation tape to stop any horrible stuff happening. It is as simple as that. It might take you as long as 5 mins.

This mod is incredibly easy, and as you can see, very effective.

Cheers Rich,

Might have a try at that tomorrow.

Are your spots in good nick? My reflectors have started to go all rusty and I noticed the plate behind the spots has rusted too

Getting the reflectors replaced under warranty, but wondered if it was a one off on my car.

My reflectors are ok, but the backplate is a tiny bit rusty, but I think they will stay in the house now until I sell the car and not get any worse.

Hope your enjoying the RB5, I know I am.

Alright Rich? Got your email.

That is a vast improvement, I was never too sure of the original covers when we met up last. Now you just need to get the car fully de-catted!

Speak soon.

Will the spot lights you get on a P1 fit onto the front of an RB5?

I like my spots for country lanes, but I agree they dont look all that.

Question

surely they're not spotlight covers anymore, cause there's no lights to cover!! can't believe you've got rid of the lights, they were the best bit of the RB5, finally some lights that worked!!

D-RB5: I'm almost 100% sure that the P1 spotlights will fit in the RB5 as the actual bumper itself is exactly the same.

Dominica: Technically you're right mate, they aren't spotlight covers, they are spotlight replacements, but, I didn't give them the name. And I agree, the lights were the best, but I never used them, so I made the decision to made the bumper look a little less budget.

I can't believe you removed the PIAA's. you see ppl all the time on this BBs looking for which lamps are better. You bought a special edition car just to take the bit's OFF. Take all the stickers off it then it'll look like an STI ?

It does look better but not at the expense of the lamps IMHO.

Don't forget lads, it's a 5 min job to take them off and put them back on again.

Take them off for the long summer days and put them back on over winter. Can't see what all the fuss is about.

I bought the covers second hand in the 'For Sale' section (but there are loads of places that sell them). They were silver so I just got Halfords to mix me up some nlue steel paint and I also bought some Primer and Lacquer and sprayed them. I arranged for a signmaking company to make the vinyl stickers which only cost me about £15.
And that was it. It really was an easy job, and as previously stated, it only takes 5 mins to swap them over, so removing the PIAA's for the summer is easy.
