My birthday, a WRX Prodrive and a roadtrip in Israel
#1
Yesterday was my birthday, so a friend of mine working for Subaru Israel gave a WRX Prodrive (245hp) for the day,
So I took the wife and the dog to a day trip to the Golan heights and here are the pictures...
The car:
The wife and dog:
sea of Galilee:
next to the remains of a Syrian tank (from the "Yom Kipur" war):

Nice car - I assume by "Prodrive" you mean that it had Performance Pack ECU upgrade? I didn't think that was available outside the UK?
PS. At the risk of being a complete spotter, I don't think the tank is Syrian; it looks like an IDF M48 or M60...
I will, as we say in England, get my my coat..

The pictures you keep posting on israel look rather nice, do you work for the office of tourism by any chance?
Its probably because the only time we see israel mentioned on tv etc over here is when something bad has happened, rather nice to see some other parts of it.
Looking forward to seeing more photo's, purely from a scenery point of view and nothing to do with the attractive lady, er honest

At the risk of detracting from your nice car pictures, I disagree about the tank
It's an Israeli M48 with a 105mm (British L7?) gun, hence the "bump" (gas expander I think) in the middle of the barrel. You can tell it's not Russian by the fact that the rear of the turret base is slightly raised (so that it can clear the top of the engine deck). The turret is also too tall to be a Russian one. There's a few other things but I fear I am now boring you all
More pictures here and here
I'm not a tank driver but I did do a lot recognition training during my air force training so we knew what to bomb and what not to bomb
PS. I'm still intrigued to know if Prodrive are officially marketing the PPP for MY01 cars overseas. I assume this might be the case as it is sold as kit and dealers can fit it....

Trust me its a Syrian T-48 or T-52,
which you find only in Eastern tanks in Western ones its in third:
M-60:
like in the Merkava Mk2 which also uses the 105mm british design:

Lol
It could go on forever however I still don't agree....
Unless I'm very much mistaken there were no T48 or T52 Russian tanks. T34, T54, T55, T62, T64 T72 etc (sounds like an Ericsson phone catalogue ). The only T48 I know of is the pre-production M48 US tank....
Agree with your point about the fume extractor but in your picture it is quite near the turret - just by your dog's nose in the picture
It also has IDF markings on the barrel - the 3 white rings (3rd Company....etc).
The other reasons I think it’s a US tank (M60 or M48)... As I said the rear of the turret overhangs the actual turret ring as shown by the lower red arrow. The other arrow shows part of the turret ventilation system just below the commander’s cupola. Not marked (only just noticed ) but the dark rectangle area at the turret end of the barrel looks like an IDF decoy smoke grenade rack.
This is an M48 – ignore the cupola on top of the turret (yellow arrow), IDF ones use a lower profile one. The full shape of the lower turret is partially obscured by the stowage box in the foreground but you can clearly see the rear overhang of the turret.
This drawing of a T62 shows the much lower profile turret and the lack of the rear turret overhang

Im doubting that the car in the picture is in fact a Subaru!
You can clearly see that the bump on the bonnet is in fact in the wrong place.
Also the overhang on the rear bumper is far to low.
And clearly the dog in the back is in fact a sheep, with a dark fur coat on.
Elondan, there is no fooling me you know.
And the tank is a cardboard cutout from the back of a cerial packet.
Your wife is obviously a mirage...something of such perfection only exists in the mind!

Good job then isnt it,
Its a Sierra I think? hard to tell....maybe a Chrysler Neon.
I could get a job with the American tank busters at this rate

As you can all quite clearly see, I do need to get out a lot more ..... which I did today, testing out the limits of my new Defi boost gauge
Seems to have sorted me out, so I promise not to mention tanks again
Back to cars for brief instant then, is it only PPP for the new shape cars that can now be purchased overseas? As far as I'm know the "classic" shape scoobs still have to go to Prodrive in Banbury for the PPP.....?
