Thumbs down Firefighters to strike in May .....

..... will we actually notice?

The number 1 job in the world where you are called on to do less than 1 hours work a week .... other than that you're polishing each others hoses, sliding down on shafts and managing your other three jobs!

Another great non-job which has 100 people chasing every vacancy ..... sack the strikers on the spot and recruit those who want to do the job for the terms and conditions offered!

Has anyone else noticed that they now go round to houses to fit smoke alarms.

Firefighters are taking the mick with this striking ,all because they've been told there pensions have to fall in line with everyone elses.
They trot out some lame excuse that they have a physically demanding job and so couldnt possibly go on beyond 55!!

Well, i say, there are many, many jobs out there that are much more physically demanding than a Fireman, who've also got a load of colleagues to help.

Builders, gardeners, roadworkers and even postmen, i would say on average have a much more physically demanding job.

Get real!!

A fire-fighter is someone who runs into a burning building...when everyone else is running out.
Postmen might have physically demanding jobs (although the ones round here seem to have the energy levels of a slug on valium) but would you want one of them cutting you out of a vehicle in the event of a RTA?

If everyone is out the stay out and control the fire until it burns out if they are big fire. I work for the ambo service and use their stations where they have a nice 50"+ TV, pool table full English breakfast for a couple of quid which they moan about when that goes up.

I went to a house fire yesterday which turned out to be burnt dinner, 3 pumps 1 officer car.
They get paid a lot more than paramedics for doing **** all and sitting around all day.

I wonder what would happen if they ambulance service stroked over are crap pay and changing pension which I have to work until I am nearly 70, would you want a pensioner doing CPR on your family member?

Be sure to tell them your views about how lazy they are when they're trying to rescue your family when your house is burning down or trapped in a crashed car, I'm sure they will be really interested to hear your views.

Do you know how much they pay into their pensions?

Police pay 14% into theirs.

Not wanting to change the subject, but i suspect that they will be in the same position as police. 1% pay rise - but 3% increase payments on their pensions, works insurance, suspension of pay scale increments and add another 10 years to your length of service before you can retire.

The military have it as a part of their x-factor which account for a number of things that are considered in military life which in total equates to 14% of the salary. It is never seen in the salary so is never deducted but included pensions and healthcare contributions.

As for reduced pay rises, pension changes and longer service - it's true across the board for the public sector but ony firemen and teachers are striking about it

Not true, only the forces get the free pensions (Which I don't have a problem with before anyone starts)

Police pay between 11% to 15% for worse pensions

They're the only ones allowed to strike, but that'll soon chance I'm sure

That's the employee contribution, what is the employer contribution?

1. I know a fireman who puts £100 a month in his pension. The employer matches it 100%. And he is only a part time retained. He has another full time job
2. Two ex firemen live down my street. Both retired, but working again. Perfectly fit and able.

As a private sector employee, my employer pays........nothing. They closed the pension 5 years ago. The public sector needs to move into the real world.

My pension I pay just under £180. It common knowledge that everyone thinks they are lazy. We can get people out of smashed cars with out their help and use to in the old days. Once out we then go on to actually save their live with pre hospital care before they even see a Doctor.

Most fire service report all the incidents that they attend so you can clearly see what they do. You don't see the ambo service constantly printing in the local paper all the jobs we go go to as it would new a paper just for them, constantly doing 13-16 job a shift ranging from 8-12 hrs

That's about 1.5 million people with no sympathy then.

Firemen and Teachers rolling out the same old bleating ..... "We can't possibly work beyond 55, it's not fair, boohoooo"

The gravy train has stopped, you stay on or get off and leave the service ... easy!

The trough of easy work for big money has been removed .... bye bye!

The reality of the rest of the world is bearing down on these cushy jobs ... very little sympathy from millions of hard workers who are paying for YOUR easy life - so, get off your lazy rear ends and STOP MOANING!!

Sure I get that, you are a veritable "Swiss army knife" skills wise - that much is obvious

I was talking about your consistent moaning of other peoples jobs/pay/conditions

You will notice, if you watched, that I only take to task those who - through greed - choose to strike and put peoples lives at risk and/or destroys children's education.

That's it - in a nutshell .....
