I bloody hate the m6 and always use A roads if I can, but I did try the toll road the other week and it was surprisingly pleasant!!
I went to Tamworth and it was £4.80 one way and £5.50 coming back but certainly worth it to have hardly anyone around and a chance of actually getting somewhere instead of sitting in a traffic jam.
Saying that, the southbound carriageway was blocked as I was coming back up north, somewhere near stoke.
It was bank holiday Monday though so 10x cretins around.

No it doesn't. Roadworks start at Junc 13 long before the toll junction.
The M6 is a joke there right now.

Great bit of road. Lovely surface and well maintained. Makes me laugh theres services though - they must be the worst frequented services in the UK due to the reduced traffic.
IMHO they should make the M25 Junction 10 to 16 a toll, that would keep people off it and perhaps turn it back into a useful road rather than having to zigzag up to the M40 because its a daily car park.

Yeah, I had to go through that bank holiday Monday. Was really busy but still preferable to the other road which probably would have been at standstill.

I've had some entertaining duels from the toll booths over the years with various German and Italian whips. First to the speed limit sign wins!
I am aware the police patrol it and look out for people speeding but it's generally very quiet at night.

If you're going 80-85 you're unlikely go get a pull, Me and a nowt mate in a van were coming back from down South and he got clocked at 91mph, The copper said if he was doing 80-85 he wouldn't have stopped him, All subjective really as I suppose it depends on the copper .

Let me google that for you:
http://www.m6toll.co.uk/pricing/
£4.80 each way in a car on Saturday 6:00 to 23:00
Unless you are traveling at busy times or some yampy idiots are causing a mess on the M6, for the sakes of few minutes it saves I'd just leave earlier and save the fiver for beer money. In my opinion of course...if you do it more than once try it both ways via the toll and not via the Toll and time it.
You'll be stuck in traffic at the NEC motorway junction anyway as they are messing about with roadworks on the roundabout (unless they've finished it now, bloody well hope so, its been going on long enough with nutty diversions to nowhere)

Should add that M6 traffic on Saturdays and Sundays is a bit unpredictable.
Recently I went to Bolton on the M6 and flew there, but got caught in heavy build up/congestion on the way back home, I think mainly from middle lane and outer lane hogs which is more rife at weekends (desk driver's day off). I got bored of the stop/go traffic and was in no particular hurry so ended up getting off at Stafford and tanking it down the A449 which was oddly empty
Obviously not much good to you as its not the quickest route during clear times, but its handy to know if you get stuck in a grid lock on the M6 heading South, North of Stafford (which is miles before the Toll road) , you can get off on the A449 and take the A5 and then onto the Toll road there ( or carry on and take the A38 towards Castle Vale (back end of NEC) ).
During weekdays its a lot more predictable.
