Default Dealership Work - Previous Owner

I have the receipt and invoice for the service carried out just before I bought my car and it had an issue which was fixed at a cost of £1500!! It was fixed by the manufacturers dealer.

I've just put it in to my local dealer and they have highlighted exactly the thing that was supposed to have been fixed.

Where do I stand on this? Work was carried out on 12/6/2013 and the car has only done 4k miles since. Since I wasn't the owner do I have any hope of getting them to revisit the problem?

Other issue is its 2 hours from me!

As you've mentioned you'd probably have to take it back to wherever it was supposedly fixed in the first place. For a £1500 repair though I would be having the conversation and asking them what kind of warranties they offer on their work.

Are you in touch with the previous owner and could they help you out?

Unfortuantely not re the previous owner, got it from a trader middleman!

The dealer that's just serviced it said it should have warranty so I'll give the other place a call. Its a pain its a trek away though!

If it's a genuine manufacturer warranty issue then it's up to your new local dealer to sort.......it's a sort of vicarious liability thing.

Hi Shaun, its not in Manu warranty any more, so its more based on the dealerships work less than 1 year and 4k miles ago, if there is any warranty on that.

I reckon I'm flogging a dead horse as they'll say it was when the car was not in my ownership or some rubbish......

Shouldn't matter if the car is out of warranty........the work carried out by the main dealer less than 1 year ago should be fit for purpose. If the second main dealer says that it isn't then they deal with it.......

How do they know you're not the same owner?

Just call them up, tell them the car was repaired on such a date and it's having the same issues.
