I've been to loads of 'holiday villages' over the years buddy , Greece,Cyprus .
I would go back to all of them to be fair.
All inclusive villages though are rammed with kids if you go around the school holiday times.
I'm hunting for one now for September when the little buggers are back at school for me and the missis so I'll be watching what replys you get!

Went here the other year

http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_R...odecanese.html

Stunning hotel especially if you have one of the rooms with balcony into the private pool like we did,
Food was spot on & a very clean hotel with friendly staff.

Borneo - stayed at the Shangri La hotels in Sabah province

Tarjung Aru Resort in Kota Kinabalu
Rasa Ria Resort - stay in the ocean view wing if it is affordable for you

I have never experienced hospitatily or service like it, out of this world, the Malaysian people are wonderful too.

I've been on several cruises and they vary enormously. People can go on one ship and then say they'll never cruise again but it's like saying if you stayed in one bad hotel you'll never stay in another hotel again so you just need to do your research and find a cruise line that suits your requirements.

The really massive ships are great for facilities but you will suffer in having to share your space with a few thousand people which obviously means longer queues. The smaller ships you'll get a more personal service but you won't have the ice rinks/ climbing walls/ outdoor cinemas.

Also some cruise lines are very family orientated so they'll have more children onboard and lots of family-led activities, other lines might be full of old bids and be too sedate. Caribbean routes will be a lot livelier than European, somewhere like Scandinavia will be quieter.

These days there are some amazing routes if you want to go somewhere a bit different and it is a good way of getting a taste of various places without having two weeks there.

Probably not what you're looking for but two places I've stayed fit for a grand occasion have been Hotel Villas Cortes in Tenerife and the Keio Plaza in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

I'd second Maldives but it can be very pricey for the better Islands. I stayed at the Constance Moofushi and even though I'm a fussy bugger I couldn't fault it. Actually the only fault was the gym wasn't that well equipped!

I've also stayed in the two hotels tarmac mentioned in Borneo, very nice. The food all over Malaysia is great.

Good luck

Went here a few years ago, all inclusive 2 weeks in Holguin, Cuba, brilliant time, everything was in the resort, food was brilliant, even bottles of champagne where part of the all inclusive, and even managed to do the whole cocktail list in the 2 weeks I was there!!

La Digue Island, Seychelles

Glorious. Not for the super active but you'll never forget the beaches and the atmosphere.

Most beautiful place I've been is to the Wild Coast in South Africa.

Barbados..the Island Inn.

Doesn't look much, but a few steps from the beach at Carlisle Bay, and steeped in HISTORY, (it was the old Royal Navy rum store)...the paths are bricks used as ballast by returning ships.

Food was lovely and plentiful, Barbados is just amazing.

been to the main one

Mahe - the actual "place" was beautiful (but when you have seen one tropical paradise you have seen them all tbh)

it was the surly, unfriendly, lazy inhabitants that really did it for me - a thoroughly unpleasant experience

all the bad points of the Swiss, with none of the good ones

(PS I am not big on "customer service" btw, a smile is often enough - but you got neither)

as Alcazar has posted - Barbados is fantastic (although I think the food is generally sh1te there)

Barbados is nice but I found it a little boring. It doesn't quite have the 'flora and fauna' of some carribean islands, the beaches are fantastic though, especially the one at The Crane.

Even though Bajan (?) food itself is horrible I actually thought the restaurants there were quite good.

I really didn't like Mexico. Food and service are excellent but it seems to lack a soul. I did a day trip to an eco park whilst I was there and it was a horrid experience, overcrowded, artificial and loads of fat yanks drinking and stuffing their gobs.

Iberostar 5 star resorts.

Any of them really - just look at the reviews on trip advisor.

We stayed at a couple - very very good for the cost.
Generally all inclusive but including good branded alcohol, free mini bar and room service etc etc. When you work back the cost and the quality (its usually very good) then its cheaper than going 4 star on B&B.

Have you considered India, go via someone like Explore and do one of their Mogul tours (i think that's what they are called) you move around a bit and stay in some old palaces as well as going on safari, Taj Mahal, Red fort at Agra, go see the little temple with the kama sutra carved on it etc, you can taylor a tour to whatever you want or even make your own for a price and stay in what ever hotels take your fancy.

Much more of a trip of a lifetime / something special than going to one place and staying there, which I think is extremely boring after 2/3 days.
