Default GoPro - what do we know about these?

I'm a stippler for staying with products I like snd know, but my micro cam is getting old now, and clarity isn't up to cutting edge technology, so I need to upgrade, but to what?

I know GoPro's are great, I've seen many videos that have used these pieces of kit, but looking at the models available I'm stumped what to buy?

Is there an alternative to GoPro?

What model are for ametures like me?

Cheers
Rob

I'm interested in this as well, Go Pro 'used' to be a pretty decent affordable trackday camera but they are bloody expensive bits of kit nowadays, surely there is a more affordable alternative on the go, what about some of the apps for the likes of iphones are they any good?

mate of mine has a Contour http://contour.com/

very good quality vid ; mounts on the side of his ski helmet (he looks less of a tit than the GoPro guys, with their top mounted cams..)

GoPro gives quality footage and the original GoPro's can be had for a song on eBay

This is onboard from our Nova rally car and was shot with the original GoPro, sound is ruined as we positioned it slightly to close to screen so it was knocking :/ action starts a 4 mins 44 seconds

I have just bought the Dogcam Bullet R+ for the bike and looking to get a mounting kit for the Scoob as well, seems a nice bit of kit

I have the hard wiring kit for the bike so as soon as the ignition turns on it starts recording but it comes with a remote control which would be perfect for the car

I forgot but the thing that sold me on the go pro is that they are waterproof to 60m, I dive so that makes the go pro a fantastic price as compared to other dive cameras nevermind the in car feature

I also went for the Contour for skiing instead of looking like a tit. Good bit of kit.

Why buy 'Grey Imports' on Ebay with suspect warranty and possibly removed serial numbers when there are better deals from UK dealers with 2 year warranties out there ;-)

The best sound will come from using The Frame and possibly an external mic. The waterproof housing isn't really needed inside the car and doesn't give great quality sound even using the skeleton backdoor.

GoPro... great picture, crap sound.

If you buy one, get an external mic to plug in and mount somewhere away from the rattle and wind noise of the GoPro.
