I'll get a picture next time, but what bird is it
Crow type body, maybe slightly smaller but also stockier. Black body and sort of greyish neck and head. Kind of two tone
Seem to be on its own.
Could been the female of the species?

Ah, that might be it yes. Cheers.
The head appeared to be completely grey as I remember
I googled most other possibilities
I'll have look at the eye next time ,if I see him again

That's cute. That could be the reason why they got called Jackdaw to rhyme with their call. The one who gave them this name must have been a Jack in the chimney.
Nothing beats the cat's call, though. Something to make you all mushy-mushy inside.

Seagulls can be very nasty. Wasn’t there a nasty one in Brighton who stalked a particular guy to the point that he now suffers from PTSD because of that! It wouldn’t attack anyone in the crowd of hundreds on the beach but that just guy! I reckon there was some rivalry between them from past life.
I just found these on line upon researching Brighton seagulls; under the heading of “There is something terrifying happening in Brighton, England”……….>
The OP said-
I'm living in Brighton and you should be ****ing terrified of those seagulls, they're huge.
One day, I had to get up really early for uni, so I was waiting at a bus-stop at around 6:30 am. I was leaning up against a fence feeling sorry for myself and yawning. This beast of seagull, who clearly had spent his life feeding on cigarettes and kebabs landed next to me and "CAW"ed at me until I was forced to move. I've never felt so emasculated in all my life.
Thus ends the tale of how I was bullied by a coastal bird.
Edit: I forgot to mention, this story is all the more demeaning because of the fact that I'm a 6'6", 19 stone, male.

A seagull in Brighton tried to steal my vodka once. True story.
As I say, seagulls can be quite vicious. I don’t think Jackdaw should ever cross them.

They don't like being shot with my 440fps BB gun though...
As much as I can get away with without actually killing them.
Last week I got five in a row, two of them while flying; mwahahahaaaa!

From your description, two possibilities spring to mind; The Jackdaw (very common everywhere in UK) and the Hooded crow (much less common). The Jackdaw is quite a small bird compared to other species of crow, and can have a silvery sheen to its head. The hooded crow is essentially the same size as a Carrion crow, and has a two tone grey/black appearance.
Regardless which one you saw, like all Corvids they are very intelligent, and are excellent problem solvers.
