Default "Proud" is horribly overused but...

I'm going to use it.

Today my three year old girl had two vaccine injections. Deep into each arm, in there for five seconds or so - not even a wince.

Yesterday the missus was surfing and rescued a bodyboarder in distress after a bloke tried and failed. Towed her away from the rocks (she paddled while the person held her leg) then shielded her from the very heavy waves as she came in.

It took five blokes another ten minutes to rescue the other girl who was right next to the one my wife saved.

Five minutes later the coastguard and RNLI arrived…

A bit proud of my girls!

Polzeath in Cornwall - about a minutes walk to the beach. We can check the surf from our office (and quite bizarrely, our loo!).

Cheers Angel!

I just wince a bit when people constantly say they're "proud" of their kids every five minutes, hence my hesitation...

How was the other one fetched out of the water?....we're they tourists?

I've only had lifeboat once ( a rib infact ) called by mate when looked like might get roughed up against concrete wall ( and no ladders anywhere ) , in sloppy aftermath of a force 5. Just ran out of wind

( windsurfing )

And whilst all this was going on you were sitting on your $hitter laying a massive log you could be proud of, watching the proceedings through the window?

Five blokes sort of swam her in but it took ages.

Dad's life was totally saved by a lifeboat when he got hypothermia windsurfing off West Wittering. He was around 10 minutes from expiring when they got to him.

I used to sail at west wittering quite a lot - in the Dee Caldwell days

then it all got a bit corporate - bibs, insurance etc etc, so most people, me included moved to Hayling Island

re proud - gawd my family make me proud every day

if it is not me eldest daughter being predicted 4 A* in her A Levels, and trying for Oxbridge

it is my 3rd getting the level 6a in her primary school SATS test - to put that in context she is hitting the same level that would be expected of someone entering their third year of secondary school

and then my wife who manages it all so effortlessly whilst starting a business

Mine are a bit young to be academically "judged" but our five year old has the reading age of a seven year old - his reading is quite astonishing. He's also a great cyclist (does MTB trails), swims two lengths and most importantly, can tell any car by it's badge Of course I think both are fab too but I detect some bias in my opinion…

TBH, I will always encourage them but never push either too hard. The results of over-pushy parents aren't good.

Hodgy - I never got into it (I can do the basics - waterstart, gybe and that's about it) but Dad was well into the sport for ages - it's a big reason we moved to Daymer. But this was early days in a wetsuit too big and wind far too strong.

He's genuinely nearly killed himself three times, once in 8ft waves off Greenaway - smashed all his kit to pieces, had to swim in on the rocks. Not ideal. Luckily he's less of a nutter now but still alarms us once in a while; slicing the end of his finger off on his bench saw was a recent scare…!

yes very bad and counter productive in many cases - luckily simply impossible with 5 children, all you can do is present them with as much opportunity in life (swimming, skiing, horse riding, sailing, surfing, tennis, squash, music, singing, dance, martial arts, travel and academic study etc etc) and let them get on with it

yep, they start by looking after us, and end by us looking after them - the circle of life

Sorry for the hijack Matt.

My son of 5 has come home this afternoon with his second kickboxing trophy in the same week as getting a above average report from school. To add to this he as also got his level 5 at swimming and his orange belt at karate and last year won the achiever of the year at school that is only given out to one in the school.

We have never pushed him to do anything and it is all off his own back, the enfersis is always on having fun.

Well done Harry

love mum and dad.

You are lucky to be able to live/work in an area where you can practise your hobbies and isn't densely populated .

What area of work are you in / where do you work if you don't mind me asking?

I'd love to be able to move somewhere in the countryside but there are no bloody jobs in telecoms in that part of the country (not that there are many elsewhere)

We run a PR/comms company from home. A team of freelancers do most of the client work but they have to be sh** hot!

You would think that a telecoms company would be ideally placed to allow remote working. My father points out that things like HS2 show a huge lack of imagination when we should be building the communications infrastructure and expectation that people will no longer meet in person to do much of their business. Ubiquitous fibre and more importantly that change in expectations would improve our economy no end? Sorry to digress, but it is lovely living in the sticks.

My eldest , when he was about 6 had to have a hep A & typhoid injection for his holidays,

Took him to his GP for the Jabs, only to be told by my son, that he's allready had his menigitis booster that morning in his arm lol

So he has a jab in each leg to boot, and neither of them was a quick in out,

They said he may be a bit stiff and sore for a few days.

Then he walked a mile to the train station with me, and a further half mile home.

He never uttered a peep

Well done to them Matee!! From that area myself and love it there!!

As an aside, I'm really proud of my seven year old daughter, year ago today she was diagnosed with leukaemia, shes battling hard everyday. Another year of treatment left, but she stays so positive throughout it helps us cope. Also my son who has aspergers traits and doesn't do change of routine has coped so well with all of the changes and loss of routine during this time with very few meltdowns. Wonderful children and I realise each day how lucky I am to have them in my life!!

Blimey Lee, that's a whole new level of "proud." Really hope it all works out; Aspergers can definitely be managed but it's hard work.

I have zero knowledge of Leukaemia but the word itself scares the hell out of me; sounds like yours is being epically brave.

Well since we're on the subject, my 7yr old boy, has just passed his 3rd judo belt, he's already a junior black belt at teakwondo and recently past his white/orange in the senior class, due his first race at bmx in a few weeks, got beaver of the year award in his scout group, he's just moved up a level in his swimming classes, his back stroke is a thing of beauty, perfectly straight arms and moves through the water really quickly for a boy of his age, he's also just started gymnastics and is shaping up as a decent goalie in football too.

To say i'm proud is an understatement.
