Default Velux Glass Replacement Advice

Hi all.

My GGL-7 window has condensation between the panes, so I have got a quote of £140 for a replacement glass from Velux themselves, but my question is, how easy is it to replace?

I have some instructions to complete the task emailed from the supplier, but it is all illustrations only with no written info

My concern is if I order the glass and perhaps a maintenance kit, and I then take out the glass, is there going to be something I might stumble on or not have meaning I cant put the window back? I have actually considered getting some marine ply retrofitted with fixings ready to cover the opening should I come across issues with the glass.

I know this might sound a stupid question, but in all my experience of renovation I have never taken out or fitted a window.

If anyone in the BB18 area knows what they are doing, please feel free to offer a quote for the job

Rob

Not done that job, but have fitted electric motors to four velux windows, and following the instructions was a doddle.

Rob,

It's dead easy. You can do it if you are a half competent DIYer and I know you are.

Here are some better instructions.

Velux - Instructions for replacing an insulating glass unit

Don't even think about paying someone, it's a doddle as long as you have genuine glass and a new seal kit from Velux

Yep its fairly easy.
I did the back two on my house that had gone misty ,when I moved in.

Just check all is ok when the kit arrives before taking the old ones out.
One of the pains had broken on delivery for me so it is best to check before you start...

Is easy once you have removed sash...

Takes about 30 mins tops....

Just make sure you clean all the old sealant off with some white spirit or similar....

Go to a velux authorized dealer and you should get 15% off list price..

Cheers everyone for the replies, and thanks Chris for the link, that's better than what they emailed me

So basically I just need:
a) The glass panel
b) Sealant strips for bottom sash cover
c) Sealant strips for sash profile
d) White Spirit or similar

I guess regular tools are adequate for the job, no specialist tool? Just gloves, a scraper, and screw drivers etc?

Cheers
Rob
