The original challenge was that you donated, or you did the bucket. That seems to have got lost somewhere. I wonder how many people actually donate, or whether it has simply become yet another social media latest thing?

Just asked the locals in the pub here as they are all working out who to nominate
I asked how many of them have donated
It all goes through the phone bill
How the hell does Facebook know your fone number I ask?
I dunno mate but that's what we heard
So nobody is donating thanks to Facebook hype

Another bandwagon to just on, perhaps if we had them jumping of cliffs the lemmings would follow.
The true original challenge was fair enough, but I would say 50% of Facebook are clueless to the actual reason of it.

I will totally agree that there will no doubt be plenty of people out there that have done this and not donated, and that a good few belong to the 'selfie brigade' as some have put it, but I know a lot of people that have taken part and given as generously as they have been able to, and not done it for the attention.
I've done it and I absolutely hate being anywhere near the centre of attention. Christ, the only picture of me on facebook is the back of my head at a good distance away, taken without my knowledge at the time by a friend at TOTB a few years ago, so I'm personally far from the selfie type.
For me it was a bit of harmless 'fun' for charity.
Yeah, it's a bit of a daft trend of the moment, but whether people have donated to ALS/MND or a charity of their choice, charities have been getting donations and coverage that they may not ordinarily have got otherwise, which surely is a good thing?

Nope.
Got nominated, ignored it.
It's just another social media craze, as someone said.
I just put "does anyone know what amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is? (Here's a clue-you chucked a bucket of icey water over yourselves for your donations to NOT be spent on research".
The only person I'd give credit to was some guy who did it with used engine oil, and, some little brummie toddler who did it and turned round and said "****ing hell!".
That made me laugh a lot to be fair!

I've not done it, nor will I be doing it, and if you challenge me you'll either be ignored or told to "**** off", likely the latter.
This does not mean I'm against people taking part, go for it, some of the videos are amusing and very clever (Patrick Stewart, I'm looking at you), and I support you for donating to a worthy charity.
I *do* think MND / ALS is a worthy recipient to charity donations, and that has nothing to do with my refusal to participate.
I will NOT be bullied, forced, coerced, or shamed into taking part in something or donating to a specific charity, regardless of wether there seems to be some viral thing happening because of it. The same would be true if someone came up to me on the street and tried to get me to donate to something, or take part in something and then donate.
I donate to causes I feel strongly about, and who is to say that I have not already donated to MND / ALS. It's no-one's business except mine as to when and who I donate to.
If this does offend you, that's your prerogative, you are entitled to your own views, as am I to mine.

With that in mind and for our own personal reasons, both my other half and I, did our challenge for Macmillan. It's something close to us, that we support and doing this was just a little extra donation.

I see it as harmless fun so don't see a problem with it. ![Suspicious](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/Suspicious.gif)
I never donate to charity because i've seen what happens to the vast majority of the money, I do however give to the needy but directly in the form of a meal or clothes when I travel to third world countries, I once bought a spark plug for a rickshaw driver in India because the cost would have meant he'd worked a week for nothing, he invited me for dinner at his place that he shared with mice and various other pests. when you see how some people live their whole lives it makes you realise how fortunate we are to even have a bucket of ice water to throw over ourselves. Think about it.
