Mobile data allowance, how much do you use?..
I'm changing jobs in Jan so will be handing back my company mobile which I currently use for personal calls.
The new job won't provide a phone I can use for personal use, so I'm going to get my own but I don't know how much data I'll use per month.
At home and the office I'll use the wifi, so it's just really usage (web browsing) when I'm out and about - ok I know this is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' sort of question, but basically I'm thinking 500meg with be enough. Otherwise it's up to 1-2gig and more cost per month when I don't think I'll use it, but not sure...
Anyone look at how much data they use?..

I have 2 phones (different roles) they have a numbers of email accounts on them. I do a very limited amount of browsing although sometimes tether my tablet to them for presentations. Looking back on my usage, I have never exceeded 200mb on either of them

Cheapest and most flexible way to run a mobile smart phone is a Sim only deal, preferably a 30day rolling contract. You can get deals as low as £5 per month. Mine is £11 unlimited 3G data, calls and texts. You won't find this anywhere now as its an old deal which I stayed with for a couple of years ago. Cheap deals are to be had if you look up on comparison sites

Yeah it's going to be a sim-only contract, I've already bought the phone. Looking like a little over £6 a month for unlimited texts, 500mins and 500meg, but I really don't know if that 500meg will be enough. If you exceed 500meg it gives you another 500meg which isnt too bad.
@ Stevebt - 12gig?! Are you using that to download music and stuff, or do you just watch a lot of streaming videos/iplayer?!

Internet radio is on alot, browsing the web and watching some of Netflix. Dont forget the extra useage for apps updating as well. All my downloads are done thru my pc so I dont tend to download anything on my phone.
I have just looked at my EE app and it says I have used 8.5gig so far and I have 5 days left on this month so a quiet month for useage

My 24mth contract with Vodafone is up in 2 weeks, ive given them notice i'm leaving so i'm hunting around for sim only deals at the min. I'll probably give the Three 1 month SIM deal a go as it includes 4g for free if your in an area where its covered, not sure which data dns minutes one to pick yet, doesn't matter really as i'll just be testing it for a month.

If you are with virgin u can get a very good deal depending on if you have phone line broadband and tv with them. We have it all and had it ever since it was satellite/telewest. And my dad has a sim only contract with them for £5 a month. Unlimited calls to virgin. 2000 mins to other networks. Unlimited texts and unlimited internet. Haggling is good

I'm glad to see the back of them after 24mths, far too many areas where you get poor coverage, unreliable 3g connection, quite often drops to 2g which is useless as you won't even be able to open a web page.

Vodafone is useless, I got stitched with a 12 month contract and I could not use the internet as it wouldn't connect. It usually was connect to two pages then go for a third and nothing as the web was gone.
If your on Vodafone I can't imagine internet useage being high as I doubt you will see a connection

Not far off the truth, i'm not a heavy user but do use it quite a bit, mainly for web browsing etc, it was frustrating when you couldn't get a vodafone 3g signal and a page wouldn't even load. I don't generally use youtube with my current data plan as i was only getting 1gb a month from Vodafone, i'm sure that will change when i have a better data plan.

Using about 20gb per month (I use my iphone as a hotspot as we have no landline broadband here)
Getting speeds of up to 19meg at the moment too.
Unlimited on three.
