New strike laws - the irony
Sajid Javid is intending to change the law on strikes so that any strike affecting essential public services would need the backing of 40% of those eligible to vote.
Can anyone else see the irony in this?

Irony aside, I find it astonishing that you can strike with just 40% (even as a trade union member). To my mind any union action should require a majority vote in favour.

Are you trying to equate a yes/no strike ballot with a multiple-choice general election which is in no way the same thing?

what a tool this guy is
he was on the radio last week, the presenter asked about the situation at Whistl - the letter delivery company who had announced 2000 jobs were under threat and in "consultation"
and what he was doing about it
all Sajid said was that he had been in touch with the Job Centre
Great, but in the studio they actually had an employee of Whistl (obviously under threat of losing his job, but still employed)
who was naturally quite surprised to hear from the Minister that he had basically lost his job, otherwise why bother with speaking to the Job centre
remember YOU are all in this together - LOL

As Whistle (TNT) is a private company, why is it that the government is perceived to be under any obligation to 'do' anything?

No, you are what needs banning.
You would be bigging-up North Korea if it provided you an opportunity to slate England in some way.
When they finally stick you in a straitjacket and dope you up daily, can you make sure we all know. Perhaps we can arrange a 'meet' so we can all come to point and laugh at you over a drink. There would probably be more takers for that than the one you are planning.

I'm OK with that - I fully understand the concept of a pure market driven "laissez faire" economic and industrial policy
I just felt a little sorry for the employee - who was really proud of where he worked, wanted to work, had been unemployed for a time and now faces it all over again

Would anyone here want to return to the era of Wildcat strikes, and the damage caused by unsupported strikes like the Miners' strike?
I certainly wouldn't.
And I suspect that, if asked, there are a LOT of ex-miners who wish they had had the laws then as are now. They MIGHT still be in work...and we might not be sat on a mountain of unobtainable coal, yet importing stuff dug by 14 year olds

sure, if that's the view - that the UK business minister has no obligation to help/intervene in anyway just put a call into the Job centre

Good old Britian.Still in the dark ages when it comes to company structure & politics. The same old us & them attitude.
We need more equality & share schemes & profit sharing.Representatives at board level & decision making. Incentivise the work force don't alienate them.

After leaving industry, where my work was appreciated and I knew it, I was actually thanked and told I'd done a decent job ONCE in all that time, despite doing a HELL of a sight more than most a lot of which on my own time.
But put a foot wrong...........

yes, it was quite sad really, apparently he was still in his whistle uniform, his pride in his job was obvious and he said at the depot, when the announcement was made, gown men were in tears

Jesus, does a day go by where you don't put up one of these dog turd threads? You're like a broken record for gods sake. I don't mind the occasional political thread but every time I click new posts it's full of this drivel.
