The money in snooker is dwarfed by golf isn't it?

Not many billionaire snooker players.

Football players and golf players are only a poor mans sport compared to what NFL and NBA top players get paid. Now they earn some serious cash

Don't forget the commentators. That's money for old rope.
Also watching the Open at St Andrews the BBC have an aircraft flying around all day just for a few minutes of aerial shots.Great use of our money.

I understand that some sports wages are extraordinarily high. But going by some responses here, I'd like to know why the 'already minted' and more than sufficient people need more and more money for?? Is it an addiction or is it just greed, or are they always finding themselves deprived in comparison to those high waged sports peeps hence the drive to match or surpass their fortune? I mean, even if you desire half their money, then as well, why, if you have more than enough to live on and leave behind?? If you have a genuine use for that money, I understand.

I must add that I have a minted nephew who I once compared to a pop singer. That's because he looks a bit like him, but better than him, if you know what I mean. He said straight away- "Thanks, but I wish I had his money!". Now the lad jets about to see all football and tennis matches to see our England lose, he sets to get married in a place where a room per night costs in four figures, he and his minted missus buy, renovate and sell properties for better money as their hobby; that's on top of their very high incomes. Even then, he wants Robbie Williams' money! I mean, why??? I don't get it.

To be fair, these golfers and racing drivers etc. get that much money because they're bleddy good at it, and the entertinment value of what they do is very high. Some may argue that golf is pretty boring, though. I, on personal level, will agree with them. But some appreciate watching the paint dry, so hey. <shrugs>

New Zealand's highest paid sportsman, by some considerable margin was Steve Williams

He was Tiger Woods (old) caddie

Again, in all fairness, I wouldn't drive my car that fast to entertain anyone (including myself) or get myself beaten up/best others like Tyson did, even if you pay me! I may consider if the reward is high. That explains one reason why they want to be paid a lot of money for what they do. Now some may argue- "what about fire fighters, then? They do serious job not just some entertaining!". I'd say- "yes, you do have a point".

The sportsmen aspect would come in inverted commas as far as I'm concerned

Well if we're allowed to consider other fields, then Art is another field where not everyone agrees that the bounty justified the effort; especially with modern art. Didn't an artist sell a blank canvass for a few thousands as a natural picture of the air? Another innovative Welsh businessmen received WAG funding to sell Welsh air in empty bottles. All he did was stand on the mountain and whizzed about a tiny bottle a time, to capture some invisible Welsh air in it! Apparently he became quite rich with that. I'll get me goat.

Really?? Who exactly asks them to play golf, hm? They play it to please themselves! Never mind them playing a frustrating 'sport', it's more frustrating to see the golfers slow motioning for miles in a large park, only to swing their club to hit a pathetic ball with dimples all over! It can also be said that those green places should be used by the kids to run about, rather than by some grown men lurking about taking a pith and boring the sh7t out of the spectators!

I think Rappers do pretty well, just talk about where they grew up, add a bit of "pop a cap in your ***" "Smack my b1tch up" type lyrics and jobs a good un, minted.

Might give it a try later, that snoop dog geezer seems to do alright out of it, if I had a pair of **** I'd probably do even better.

You dont think a boxer is a sportsman? How fit do you thi k you have to be to stand toe to toe for 12 rounds. Most normal people get exhausted working out properly on a bag for 3 minutes never mind putting all your weight behind a punch.

There is also the running every night on top of training every day and diet down two weeks before the fight for to achieve the right weight as no one will walk around at thier chosen fivhting weight.

Hire Jed and Edward aka Jedwood. I hear they're looking for a break again these days.

I've done various endurance events, officer selection for the Royal Marines (passed) and so on yet the single most exhausting thing I ever did was a fairly major National kickboxing tournament. I came 4th overall but could hardly lift my arms at the end. Half an hour after it finished, concussion kicked in too - ran to the loos and threw up. I was absolutely KNACKERED!!

Agreed. Boxing training is pretty horrid. I've seen the training regime Army boxers go through (I'm a squaddie myself and have a few mates that box at Corps level) and it is rigid. 3-4 PT sessions a day, strict diet etc, and when I say physical training, I don't mean pop to the gym and prance around for an hour, I mean proper thrashings. The weight just falls off the guys.

I have two friends who were army boxers and keep asking me to train with them as I fought in Thai boxing for years but one has over 90 fights and the other has over 50 fights. That's a huge record for an army boxer and I know when I would be out classed
