Default Advice from those knowledgeable on mapping?

My lad's Clio 197 needs a new exhaust manifold. He can get a Toyosports stainless one for £199, but it's decat. The OE one has problems and is expensive for what it is.

He would like to know if he should a) send off his map to someone else, get it tweaked and refit, or b) nurse the car 40 miles and have it remapped properly?

Does anyone know if the removal of the pre-cat in the exhaust manifold necessitates a remap? K-Tec recommend a remap.

Sorry for asking this on a Scoob forum, but he feels that there are less twonks on here, more knowledgeable people.

Lastly: heatwrap? Do we or don't we?

TIA

Personally I would take it for a custom remap, what works for one car might not be good for another, even if it's the same model and spec.
Imo generic maps aren't the best,to do a proper job plenty of data logging is needed and a wideband used to get all the correct data before changing the map.

Its n/a engine wont make a huge difference without re mapping different to a turbo car as it effects boost levels with a free flowing exhaust

I've only ever mapped my own cars(turbos) but wouldn't a n/a car need the AFR's and timing looking at when going decat?
I know it makes more of a difference with a turbo but increasing the exhaust flow, potential to lean out?
Either way I would say a nice remap would make any car nicer to drive.

The 197 is in a high state of tu e from factory, you will not get anything out of it by mapping, (only prob sorting issues out etc) I wouldn't use ktec either with their hugely over priced stuff.
There are plenty of others to ask on cliosport.net.

Why does he need a new manifold?

Original is cracked and blowing at one of the flexible joints. Not an easy repair, or he'd weld it himself. It needs the flex bit cut out and replaced.

The replacement uses a single flexible joint which is bigger, also has better gas flowing and larger porting.
