Best car worst car
Seen this on another forum, found it very interesting reading people's thoughts and opinions (of which a lot were contrasting between members)
Simply, as an 'overall' motoring experience (taking into account everything from running costs to reliability to fun factor etc), what's the best car you've owned and why.

The best car has to be my 96 sti which I had for nearly 5 years and never let me down.
Worst was my vectra gsi. It cost me a bomb to buy. Never really felt that fast, cost me over a grand in repairs in the first year and then decided to chew up the engine on the m5.

Best car: Current Turbo 2000. Love how it looks, love that it's been well looked after all it's life. Love the noise, love the attention, love getting oversteer out of a roundabout.
Worst car: Tough one. Owned a few sheds over the years. Renault Clio rt. Couple of 106's and Saxo's. Renault 5 non-turbo. Worst was probably an automatic MG zr 1.4 which I purchased in June last year. Only needed the car for a couple of months to get me around. Advertised for £600 and only paid £500 as it needed oil badly and I had a little haggle anyway. In that time, the left-rear picked up a puncture, the boot wouldn't lock, the drivers window stopped working, sometimes it wouldn't start and when it did you had to wait for the temp to go up otherwise it would stall when putting it into gear. Power steering was crap. Engine sounded like screaming cats in a bag. Looked like ****e. Drove like ****e. Hated it so much I used to throw stones at the door panels if I was bored at home. Sold it for spares (hah, as if anything was roadworthy on it).

Hi,
Best car - current ML63 AMG with optional performance pack 557 hp - but expensive to run. Rear brake pads already replaced at 14,000 miles (£300) and average fuel consumption since new of 15.4 mpg.
Other good cars - 1995 Subaru WRX import, 2005 WRX, Octavia VRs Mk1 and Mk2, Escort XR3i, Tiger Super Six, Dutton Malaga, Dutton Phaeton, TVR 2500M.
Worst car - Peugeot 206 GTI - very dodgy handling (after having had 106 GTI, 205 GTI, 306 XSI).
Other bad cars - Vectra GSI - zero torque, Sierra 2.0GLS - jelly handling,
Cheers
Steve

Best car was my first. A red 1.8 Opel Manta that I called the cherry popper.
Worst car was an old Austin Maxi VDP. Had a minor fuel leak so it always stank of petrol, handles worse than a hovercraft, was fitted with a stupid small steering wheel that needed arms of a Russian shot putter to steer. It finally did the honourable thing by bursting into flames whilst I was driving it. Oh, yeah, it appears that the fuel leak was in the engine bay: a perished fuel line dripped petrol onto a hot manifold.

Worst car, a year old Fiesta RS Turbo, 3 alternators, turbo, electrical failures, never walked so much in my life, utter crap.
Best car, MK 1 3100 V6 Capri rally car, never broke, whatever you did with it, sideways everywhere, never failed to put a smile on your face.

Best: Ford Escort Mexico MkI. Most fun to drive ever.
Worst: Ford escort MkIII 1.3GL: four carburettors, five auto chokes, four alternators, four starter motors, five exhausts, two oil pumps, and a whole new engine. B*gger never started well, and our finances dictated it was the car we kept the longest ever
Put me off Fords for life

Best car: My '90 Golf GTi 16V Never fails to put a smile on my face
Worst Car: Mk4 Escort 1.6 automatic, bought it off my mates Granddad because I needed a car in a hurry. Rolling excrement, awful engine, worse gearbox and terrible suspension
I spent six months driving it into the ground, then sold it to my mum's sister for what I paid for it

Best Car : Zafira VXR, still going strong after 10 years. Totally practical for what I need, cheap to run (so far), very comfortable to drive and has a good level of power although it does suffer from torque steer.
Worst Car : Peugeot 307CC 180, Heavy, under-powered and the most uncomfortable ride I've ever had the misfortune to endure (enduring back pain after 40 miles). After offloading this hateful piece of crap I swore never to but Peugeot again.

Worst car- Corsa C exclusiv, probably had only one thing going for it and that was it looked the part. Just a shame that when you got up close you discovered it really wasn't.
Best car- technically the GB270. Subjectively however it's a close fight with the Astra VXR i had before it. Purely because putting that much power through the front end of a Vauxhall Astra was just daft.

great little cars those Polo's
was it one with an E on the gear **** instead of 4th
I like pretty much all the cars I have had/driven - all of them have had a bit of charisma even the "rubbish" ones
especially fond of an old Granada MK2, I had for a time it, had a 2.3 Diesel engine and "taxi" trim - which really meant oversized ashtrays
to start it involved a dose of eazystart, but great to drive and other road users gave it the respect you deserved
worst was probably my wife's old MK1 Renault 5 - in fairness that was pretty **** car

Did yours have the violent boost cut on frosty mornings ?, to make it worse it had the same engine mountings as 950 Pop Plus, after a few boost cuts it shears the mountings off.

Best - 2009 Subaru Forester xten that I sold in December (my new XT is still running in but don't think we'll get on that well in all honesty)
Worst -close call between my old 1972 VW Beetle 1200 (bought in student days to look cool, huge mistake) and a 1986 1.2 seat Ibiza with 'system porsche' graphics down the side!! A true pile of ****

Best 'overall' car I've owned - 2001 (MK5) fiesta Zetec s. Such a brilliant little all rounder and cheap as chips to run
Worst car - Mk1 Focus RS. Wafer thin paint, stone-age mechanical diff that cannot control torque steer in the slightest, stupid seats and even more stupid seating position (absurdly high) etc etc.
