Unhappy Advice on car repair

Right chaps i have a audi 3.0v6 tiptronic a4cabriolet
Now the gearbox failed and was priced 1400 for a new chain as mine had snapped in box a new clutch and some second hand cones as newones was 1000 each and mine was goosed.

Now in october i got it back 6month warranty and with it being a summer car and having a work van it never really got touched now end of april i took it to have the front bumper touched up and it failed just lost all drive got it recovered to garage who fixed it as he told me they needed it there too look at it now hes had it 6week today and still not fixed.

Last week i had contacted him threw email and he said they had stripped it and the chain had snapped and he only gives 3month warrenty on 2nd hand parts he will need money towards to fix it. Told him he gave me 6month and evan though its out of date the car has not evan done 500mile so it must not of been a new chain like he quoted me for or was fitted wrong.

Where do i stand with this how can i make him fix the car as it wernt fit for purpose to fail so soon and i told him this and he said he is doing the best he can for me leave it with him.

Ive had enough i want it fixed so i can get it sold for the summer

Cheers in advance guesty

That's sounds like a multitronic. Not tiptronic

It's a CVT. And to be frank, they are great until they go wrong and then it's s nightmare. Beside the ECU sensor faults which is fixable, if it's a mechanical fault you cannot fix these on the cheap, so it's either get a new box via Audi or TPS or get rid of the car. TPS is trade part services...VAGs UK supply network.

Bit late with this advice as by the looks of it you've had it repaired by a non-ZF repairer. Bad news. You just cannot repair these ***** nilly like a manual box. Maybe the clutch pack but nothing else.

Sorry I meant Schaeffler, not ZF (ZF make the automatics). What I meant is as far as I know there are no manufacturer approved repairers in the UK, as such I would be sceptical of the durability of any rebuilt multitronic.

I know that doesn't help, but it may explain why you are getting fobbed off, as you are aware new components for these are either very expensive or unavailable. How you go about getting your car back and working is a tricky one; I'd hazard a guess the gearbox repairer is waiting to get hold of a second hand box to strip for spares.

Well this is what ive just said to him

It has now been 6 weeks you have had my car. It should of been fixed and returned to me by now.

You told me it needed a new chain a new clutch and you was going to source some cones as mine was damaged in October.

So the clutch and chain should of came with a 12month manufacturer warranty.

For it to fail after around 500mile it has either been fitted incorrectly or you did not fit what you charged me £1400 for initially.

It has cost me £65 to have the car recovered to you because it broke down, Also it is costing me alot in taxi fairs as you have had my car so long, still paying tax and insurance also for a car i have not been able to use. Let alone having to have it recovered when its fixed because you have had it that long the mot has expired.

I cant afford to do this no more i think ive been more than reasonable with the timescale.

In our previous conversations all you have said is that the chain has snapped in the gearbox and you are looking into it.

I really didn't want it to come to this but i think you are just putting fixing the car off and putting paying customers 1st as you have already been paid off me for this and its broke.

I want the car back for the 20th June 2016 or i will take the matter further. As the repair you had done was not correct for the chain to snap after so short distance.

Many thanks Dave

I think that's more than fair on your behalf...you cannot be left without a working car without a reasonable explanation and no time frame of when it will be fixed. Regardless of what is wrong.

What neck of the woods is this garage buddy? Just wondering as I have had experience near me in Barry, I doubt it's the joint but I always check. 500 miles on a repaired box is totally unreasonable regardless and such a timescale is pure ********. Diagnosis of failure will be the key but without paperwork you are in a bad starting position sadly. I wish I could say different.
