Exclamation

I'd be very surprised if it were that much. Taylors 1960 is around £70 bottle and Warre around £50. I didn't even think Quinta de Noval declared in 1960. I also wouldn't expect too much of it. 1960 was not a great year and it will be pretty faded by now. Particularly one from a second tier shipper.

A nice 1963 however, that's a different proposition. A quinta de Noval from that vintage (which is one of the best currently drinking) should be obtainable for around £75, and the Fonseca for around £200.

I have one last Fonseca 63 which is waiting for a special occasion

Red face

Seriously?

Yep -I'd say you got a bit of a bargain there mate. I'd be interested to hear what you think of it. I haven't tasted a 1960 for 3 years or so now. It was a Warre, and it was starting to fade. But if you seriously got it for a quid, it's worth it just for the novelty value of drinking a vintage that you don't see so much of around these days.

I've got (or my wife has one I bought her) a bottle of 63 Warres FN414100 on the seal and its waxed over and appears 100% intact. Label also on there(well in the box). I think I paid about 90 quid 8 or 9 years ago. Whats it worth now and will it get better with age or should we start to think about drinking up. We keep it in our cellar and the temp/humidity is reasonable according to the wine thing we have on the wall. The difficulty is when do you drink it, possibly on my wifes 40th since I bought it on her 30th.

Thanks
Cammy

Cammy,

This reckons £108 for a bottle of Warre '63, although personally I think you would be lucky to get one for that - I seem to recall seeing some at around £120 not so long ago. If it has been kept well (do you have any idea about its storage before it came into your hands?) then it should last for quite a while yet. The '45s are still drinking beautifully, although probably won't last too much longer. I was lucky enough to be around at the opening of a '27 a couple of years ago and it was still excellent.

I reckon your 63 will have at least another 10 years in it before you even need to start to think about drinking it.

The prices aren't too far off - seems about right for the 77 Taylors I got a while back (and was drinking last night with some fresh from France unpasturised brie!).

Any suggestions on decent places to pick up bottles?

Its become a tradition for me to buy my dad, brother and myself a bottle each Christmas. I'm starting to struggle on beating the 77 (at least I am when my wife finds out the price!!!).
