Wink

I am looking at getting one of the above detectorsand was just wondering what the legality etc is surrounding them. i.e. if I get caught with one in the car, what can be done?

From what i can see, they are now legal, but I am not 100% sure.

Also, anyone got one a Snooper SD815IS with any points to share about it?

Cheers
Mike

from what I gather its legal to own it.
its legal to have it switched on.
its legal to pick up the broadcasts it recieves from cameras
but the illegal part is if you act on the information it gives you,
i.e brake !!!

EDIT :- this might help too http://www.beldirect.co.uk/law.htm#legal
the snooper model your enquiring about didnt get much of a review, however this one did :-)

I have one of these. They do pick up gatso, laser speed traps.......................traffic lights, crossings, automatic doors, PIR activated lights, trees, clouds, tarmac, cars etc
If you were to brake everytime it bleeped you probably would never get above 10pmh.
I would suggest one of the newer ones, a friend of mine has one in his Audi RS2. It is much more sensitive. As we drove along the Hoole road it beeped at the camera but ignored the traffic lights. I would suggest one of these detectors but in conjunction with one of the GPS systems for SPECS and Gatso detection as they give you a much earlier warning.

beware of clifford alarms too, some seem to interfere with the signal setting it off (the detector not the alarm)
had a friend with a concept 600 that set it off all the time, in my car with concept 50 on same road was fine....go figure

n5pug and Chaz have just about summed it up...they do work but you can get more selective kit now.

Thumbs up

Completely legal to own, use and act on - according to my S5 manual. Just bought a Snooper S5 - the sd815i looked good but couldnt find any reviews. The S5 got v good reviews and I am pleased with it.

Sure, it picks up the occassional traffic light and quite a few automatic doors but yer always know when its likely to be one of those eg supermarket car parks, shopping centres, traffic lights etc

I've also picked up a police training car (must have different kit in cos it doesnt pick up traffic cars or pandas). Also picked up a tractor - one of the breed that uses radar to work out field sizes apparently. Can recommend the S5...
