Hi guys,
We have an office monkey onboard who seems a bit sketchy about what he is qualified for and what he isnt.
Anyway, I need to know what the diff between an NVQ and a GNVQ is please - which is better, harder er longer etc etc
cheers
Andy

Sorry, couldn't resist.
http://www.qca.org.uk/nq/subjects/qlgnvq1.asp
"GNVQs prepare students for the world of work and provide a good starting point for students moving on to the more specific National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs)."
So GNVQs first, then NVQ by the sounds of it.

seeing as i have lectured in these!!! (Painting and Decorating)...but all are the same no matter what you do them in...Child care etc etc
NVQ... National Vocational Qualifications...go from level 1 to 3
(usualy)
level one..a monkey could pass!!!!! this is what we taught to 'special needs' students and Pre school levers to get a feel for P&D (Painting and Decorating)
level TWO is the starting point for most coming outta school (this is spoze to be equivalent to City and Guilds Craft Cirtificate!!
level Three is ment to be equivalent to Advance Craft C&G!!!
IMHO anyone could pass any of these if they have half a brain....with nvq's/gnvq's if you don't pass one part you can retake it till you do!
with the city and guilds, you were tested at the end of the year! Exam...if you didn't get it right on the day you'd fail! but the down side to C&G was you could miss all the lessons and only come in on the days when you were assessed on your work...you could then pass on your course work then the end exam!
NVQ' are Known as 'pizza box's' you do the 'piece of the PIZZA' you wanna learn...ie I only want to learn Wallpapering..
so you just go and learn WALLPapering etc...then they may say i wanna learn spray painting!
so at the end of the day you could pass all individual sections of the course but not be compitant in ALL the areas of a 'trade'
I would not put IMHO NVQ'a on the same lines as A-levels!! no matter what anyone says!

GNVQs were being done by some people at my school (which I left 2 weeks ago after finishing the A2 levels (A levels in old money).
6 point GNVQ is worth one A level, a 12 point GNVQ is worth 2 A levels (yes I did maths
).
I'm pretty sure NVQs come later.
"Going Nowhere Very Quickly" is the one I'd heard
