I'm thinking of going to Santa Pod to get some timings for my standard MY99, so that i can compare some real world times (done by myself) to what the mags said about the car at the time.

Anyway, the rules for the Run What you Brung day is that if you go across finish line at 100mph or more then you need a helmet, I dont own a helmet but there is every chance i'll be doing somewhere between 90-100mph across the finish line isnt there?? I dont know, never measured a 1/4 mile, all I know is that 100mph doesnt take very long at all! So will I be doing 100mph or not? And who decides whether you need a helmet, i dont wanna line up only to be told I need a helmet, seems a weird idea for a drag strip for road cars cos i dont know a scooby driver who has never done 100mph on a real road!

I did not take a helmet.

Unless your car is mega tuned, you aint gonna get far over 100 mph

no its standard, but I know a standard car will hit 100 shortly after the line or on it! Doubt it'll be a problem!

If its a standard UK car, I dont think you will be hitting 100mph.

great, its just that if you look at 1/4 mile times for a standard uk car they appear to be just about the same as the 0-100 times, but i agree, i'll probably end up at 90mph or something daft!

You may get close to the "official" times, the closer you get, the more abuse you will be giving you clutch.

I think that my clutch is already a bit ropey, i'll probably just have a couple of runs and leave it at that.

UHF - You only need to have a helmet if the car doesn't have a roof e.g a westie etc...

All road car drivers do not need to wear them unless car is a convertible with roof down.

It says on thier website, open top cars, bikes, and cars which cross finish line at 100mph or more, i've already decided not to take a helmet since i'll doubtless be just under 100mph!

I was always under the impression if your car ran under 16's for the qtr mle you needed a helmet, but then that was around 4 years ago in my Bu g days

UHF - I 've been there many a times constantly doing over a ton across the line and never once asked to wear a helmet.

I've checked the website and it does say you need a helmet, not quite sure what they are on about as all the RWYB days i've been to i've never seen people in road cars wear them.

Mel.

p.s what mods have you done to yours and what sort of power you running.

Well you should be looking at least at the low 14s in time wise and about 92-95mph terminal speed.

It will be a good idea to remove any excess weight from your motor as for the prelude he's got no chance against you.

I was only going to go to prove to him that HP isnt everything, we may have the same HP almost but the 4wd initially and then superior torque will win the day!

UHF, I recently ran my uk sti 7 at the pod and there were a few old and new scoobs there.
I must say if your car is std you will have to do the run of your life to get in the early 14's.
I was up against an My00 uk with full de-cat s/s exhaust / induction / ecu and a few other bits and ( don't no his name ) he ran a 14.232 @ 94.31.
I was with too mate's in there STI 1/2 with full de-cats and induction kits and the odd bleed valve trown in, there best times were a 14.36 & 13.8 I think !
I was surprised on the times of the evo 6's and an evo 7 Mitsi the 6's were getting early 14's and the evo 7 did a respectable 13.99 don't know at what speed though I must say I thought Mitsi in general had an edge on the scoobs but not on the day.
If you can race against a modded scoob you could get an idea on the difference, it may only be .5 or so of a second but at 90 + mph the distance is a fare bit several car lengths.
I ran a 13.7 in my very std UK STI 7, not bad for an OVERWEIGHT BUG EYE with a boot full of c**p and the worst reaction time ever !

Best of luck and let us know how you get on.

Buy the way ditch the base box.

Arron.

Santa Pod is a timed event. I dont want to be a kill joy but beware what you say here. There are warranty issues here, if your car and your identity are available in a public forum relating you to taking part in such an event you may just find your warrenty has been axed.....stupid I know.

Please dont shoot the messenger just info...

Oh, and more joy! you have no insurance personnal or vehicle if it all goes horribly wrong either as far as I know.

If you get it wrong and lose the car into the wall in a standard ish scoob, you don't deserve a driving licence!

There is no rule about crash helmets, unless you're on a bike or open top, as mentioned.

Reaction times don't make a difference in the slightest, as the run is timed from when you leave the line, and not on the lights. Reaction time is only used for racing etc etc

I'll be there on Sunday, in my stage 1 RWD cossie, trying to better my 13.61 @103mph. Don't forget your driving licence, as you will need that to sign on, and if you want to run, make sure you get there nice and early..... as it can get very busy!

Come and say hello if you're around. You'll see my white saff with another probably going head to head.

Cool

Regarding the reaction time thing - I don't know what computer they have at Santa Pod but if it's the same as Melbourne, York then if you set of before the green light on the Christams Tree you will get a red whether you're in a competition or Run Wot Youve Brung.

Any questions just ask and if I don't know I know a man who can.
