Is Bin Laden Dead?
#1
Seems odd we've seen nothing from him since the Allies bombed Tora Bora.
He's either waiting to emerge saying 'Here I am you did'nt get me' or he's dead. If he was to come out, then now would be a good time, a year after the events.
I don't think we'll ever know for sure though

I was under the impression that he was killed in the caves?
To be honest, if you were him, you wouldn't pop out and say here I am, come and get me.
I am not sure if the USA would say they killed Bin, as it could cause a backlash from Bin's supporters to go do suicide runs?

Do we really care?
I think that if he was then the Al-Kaida network would use that fact to show him as a martyr to Allah & the cause of Jihad. He's actually probably better off to them dead than alive!
Also, if he is dead, then like as not some lieutenant will step in his place & continue the good work
I'm more scared of the Americans TBH

True
I've always thought it was unofficial US Policy to keep him alive and on the run so that he's got no time to plan more stuff and nobody can take over. Maybe there was'nt enough of him left over to show around?
The Americans are getting a little gung ho at the moment, what's more concerning is that we are following them with little or no debate about it.

Actually he's alive and well and working in my local Sainsburys.
He keeps on piling the baked bean tins really high then throwing paper planes at them - that's how I knew it was him!
I've been trying to turn him over to the authoritys for months, but they aren't interested as they are looking for an excuse to bomb Afghanistan.

OFFS guys.
Yes I feel sorry for the relatives and I think it was a terrible thing to happen but life goes on, or else the terrorists have achieved their goal, don't you think?
Personally I think all this rememberance stuff does is make the terrorists feel better, hightens the chances of some nut repeating things or suicide bombings or something similar.
How many of you had a minutes silence for the people who died fighting for your country in the Falklands or those who died in the last run in with Sadam? Not many I'm sure.

If we consider how long it must have taken to prepare the attack last yer its of no real surprise that Bin Laden has been a bit quiet.
As for remembering those who died in the Falklands & Gulf [etc].. I know the families and friends do, but they were also at war, whether they were civilians or soilders. This had such an impact due because of the shock value and the imensity of it

i think the shock value of a death causes you to remember it clearer...i think thats different to it being a reason to remember it out of respect. (or it would be if we werent all sheep to the media)

OBL wants to appear dead
Americans want him to be alive
Don't know the truth, but I don't think it is the issue anymore. Looks like we are bombing iraq as George W thinks he'll be popular, and Mr B Liar wants to follow suit... Madness!
I'm not saying we should or shouldn't be bombing, but I think we need to be clear about why we are doing anything and ensure that we have exhausted the polictal/diplomatic/non-war solutions first, ignoring the human tradegy, war is extremely costly and TBH I don't see what benefit the UK and more widely the international community gets from bombing iraq...

claudius,
so bush is one of the "least intelligent men on the planet" by your expert reckoning? he was intelligent enough to become an operational fighter pilot in the US air national guard in the 70s.
now, think *you're* sharp enough to do that??
so he's not an erudite man. so he's mildly dyslexic. so what. dan quayle he most definitely isn't.
he's intelligent enough to surround himself with experienced, very high calibre people - like condoleeza rice, colin powell, dick cheney, donald rumsfeldt - who he knows can make up for his own shortcomings, perceived or otherwise. not to mention james baker III (former sec/state) and his father - who also happens to be former director of the CIA amongst other things - as advisors.

96?
i'm sorry sheepsplitter but i don't believe it. officially recorded by whom? published where and when?
an IQ of 96 will categorically not see someone through pilot training.
i suspect you have been misled.

here's your answer:
http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bliq-bush.htm
Quote from the assessment:
"It's obviously satire, though in a few cases it has been posted around the Net as factual and, strange as it seems, hotly debated.
We have found no evidence of a "Lovenstein Institute" in Scranton, Pennsylvania or anywhere else. There's no trace of a "Dr. Werner R. Lovenstein, world-renowned sociologist" or "Professor Patricia F. Dilliams, world-respected psychiatrist" — not in this world, at any rate. All of the facts and figures appear to have been made up. Some versions of the text claim it was published by the Associated Press, which is not the case."
you've been had mate.

OK it's a fair cop. I was misled, but it's easy to be misled that the guy is a total moron as he is quite clearly a bit of a mutt. You only need to listen to him talking to realise he's not of the same calibre as some of the other world leaders/presidents.
Still, he was elected, so I guess it was the US people that were misled really.

a mutt? with an MBA from harvard business school to make him the only US president to enter the oval office so qualified?
yes, that makes perfect sense. good to see you're not judging the book by its cover.

Hopefully, Bin Laden is 300ft below ground in a 'disused' American bunker somewhere in Nebraska, where he has been taken by U.S. Special Forces.
His captors can go and poke him with sharp sticks and cattle prods every few minutes.
Here's hoping.

Are we something of a Walt Disney generation ?
So we need a guy with a "black hat" to hate ?
We need a protagonist/antagonist ?
Sometimes the collective naivity of this BBS surprises me to no end.
"Bin Laden" is a name, a concept. He is or was (whatever) taking care of fundings & "sales force technique" videos.
Most authorities don't consider him a tactical/technical brain at all. Does anyone here really believe that by taking him out we are "safe" ? OMG...
Oh, and that money mainly comes from Saudi Arabia, not Iraq. Check your sources. But I guess we're not ready to nuke them ? How strange
And for once, I agree with Claudius
IQ has got nothing to do with it though, he is an insult to every decent man on earth.
