As some of you know, I had trouble selling my horse a couple of months back due to him being a bit of a live wire. In the end I effectivly gave him away free with the saddle I sold.
Anyway, having had a horse for the last six years, I realised I had made a bit of a mistake and decided to contact the new owner to see if I could have him back. I was even going to offer to pay a small amount for him.
What I found out next beggers belief. (don't read it if you get upset about animal welfare)
I spoke to the woman and she said she had sold him on. This was okay, until after probing a bit further to find out where she had sold him onto, I found out it was a livestock dealer, who specialises in exporting horses to main land Europe. Whats worse, she went on to tell me she got £200 for him as well. At this point I got rather upset about the whole thing and told her, I'd rather of had him shot at home, than have him spend 3-5 days in a lorry going accross Europe to Italy, to be hacked up alive![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
She gave me the name of the dealer she sold him to and I've contacted them. I was quite suprised that they appear to have accurate records of the animals they export, and they told me has was shipped to Southern Italy 2 weeks ago.
Its too late to do anything now, Im just sorry that he had to endure a 3-5 day drive to Southern Italy, no doubt without food or water to be hacked up at the end of it.
A lesson for all concerned

Very sorry to hear this. I well remember the original thread. I think this "woman" should be shot this time.
Bad luck, mate. You did your best.
Regards,
Richard.

Qwerty Im gutted for you, and agree wholeheartedly with Tiggs that she should be reported and banned from any future ownership of animals of any sort, even budgies or the like.
I reckon she didnt realise what she had saddled herself with until she got it home, and then jumped at the chance to make a quick buck and got shod of it to the first available punter. Shame you couldnt have trapped her in the act. She made £200?? You should get at least a pony out of her profits ffs!
Ive been shouting at the monitor in my anger, and Ive made myself a little hoarse.

Is it illegal to export horses? If not why would you report her for cruelty? She sold on a horse she owned, one that you no longer owned, why should the woman be shot?
I know there is an emotional attachment, but you lost your rights to have a say with this animal the moment she took possesion.
If it is illegal to export a horse then that's a diferent matter.

losing rights aside...i'd pay her a visit with 'the boys', she was obviously out to make money. anyone making money through the mistreatment of animals should be executed - no question.

Agree with John on this one..
I don't believe it is illegal to export a horse and there are regulations for livestock transportation..
If they are exporting them regular then it would be in their interest to comply with them, so as not to risk getting shut down.
The standards might not be as grand as you or I might expect to be transport in but are okay for a horse.. (no offence intended)

John, this isn't a legal issue, it's a moral one. There are lots of unpleasant things that are quite legal to do, but that doesn't make it okay.
Best regards,
Richard.

...the issue isn't whether it's illegal or not to export a horse
, the issue is that this piece of human garbage took the horse (probably knowing that Qwerty was trying to give it away to a good home) and then sold it to make money, knowing full well the horse would suffer as a result.

So it's not illegal to do what she did.
No disrespect and no offence intended, but you took the decision to sell the horse on and make that animal the responsibility of someone else. You dont have any say in the matter from then on.
That may make me look heartless, which i am not, but you chose to let that animal go, it's no use feeling sorry for yourself or that animal now. If something meant so much to me, i wouldnt part with it in the first place.

Not a nice story but I have to say I don't think there's anything wrong with what she did.
She had something that she could make a profit from and if she's in that business then why not?
Her working practices may not be to our liking but it's not like QWERTY sold the horse with any stipulations like:
Must be given fresh hay twice a day
Must be allowed out to hunt weasels once a week
Just my opinion
Mike

What???
Heartless BAST! RB170 I hope you NEVER are allowed to keep ANY animals, not even a fecking ANT! When did you last see a sign up in a pet shop stipulating "You must feed the animals you buy BYE LAW" ? eh?? eh???? You DONT see that, its obvious to anyone with half a brain!
If you'd BOTHERED to read the threads before stumbling out your half-wit reply, you'd KNOW he was only selling it for it to get the best care it could, and the buyer KNEW this!
She's taken advantage of our friend Queerty, and maybe he's been taken in, but she's robbed him for her own monetary gain, and NOT for the welfare of the animal - if you cant see anything wrong with that, then maybe you should be working at the Life Sciences place, cutting up peoples pets, you cold hearted *******!
Fire bomb time I reckon. Wheres that crappy BR5 kept?

Buzz - read the thread yourself - it says he gave the horse away with a saddle - not that he wanted it to go to a horse loving sanctuary - which I'm sure there are plenty of !
I seem to remember from the original thread that Qwerty was looking for money for his horse - when he couldn't get this he decided to give it away with a saddle - I'm not getting at qwerty I would have done the same - but I wouldn't have gone looking for him (the horse) after !
Jase
ps Woman sounds like a money grabbing bitch - but there plenty of them around

It could be worse, as long as its still alive and being looked after somewhere. There is another alternative end for horses that end up in some countries in Europe, which is far more unpleasant, think yourself lucky that Italy is one of countries who don't eat them.

It's probably been hacked in to pieces by now. Why else would you export a horse to Italy? Every year 100'000's from all over Europe are exported there, some under terrible conditions with many dying en-route. It's cruel, but it happens as it's not illegal.
Still, at least he probably got served up in a tasty bolgnaise with a decent bottle of red. Now that's how I'd like to go.

Come to think of of it i dont know too many people who would chosse to blow their pet away with a sawn off shotgun, or would that be with a magnum handgun (kinder i suppose)
Guess he must really have loved this pet
