Red face

Did anyone else feel an earth tremor at 0.55am today?? I was sitting at my computer desk when I heard a loud grumble, the house shook and my computer desk swayed.

I am near Bristol and it was quite violent here. My other half was in Hereford and it was fainter, like a truck passing by.

Who else felt it??

Watching BASEBALL on C5 when heard what first appeared like a SAFEWAYS supermarket articulated lorry rumbling by - not unusual around here at 0100 hrs - IMMEDIATELY followed by a near violent shake which thrust me and my chair in the direction of the TV. If you've ever been lightly shunted from behind in your car it was exactly like that for me .... a little neck whiplash as I was simply not prepared for it as you would be when hearing a skidding car appraoching your boot. EERIE! By UK standards, this was quite strong in the Gloucester area. Previous lesser quakes I've slept through no bother ...

But why did it happen??

Aren't we thousands of miles from a fault line?

Cool

We may be away from a MAJOR fault line, but I am sure there are little cracks in the tectonic plates we sit on that are ground against occasionally, causing little rumbles such as this.

Anyone else got a better idea?

No dudley is right over a major fault line which comes all the way down from a fault under the atlantic This particular fault is moving the same distance every year at the same rate your nails grow or something It wont occur in the UK for another 10years probably.
