TV and Hi-Fi using same speakers?
#1
I have a TV which is using external Misson Speakers (Centre, 2 fronts and 2 Rears).
I also have a Hi-Fi which has it's own speakers. To save space in my living room, can I get rid of my Hi-Fi speakers and connect my Hi-Fi to the 2 Mission front speakers, they are M72's. Will this work?, as long as I don't have my TV and HI-fi on at the same time, or will this damage my Mission's?
I know I could get an AV amp to plug this all through but I don't really want to spend that sort of money.

As Neil says, don't double-wire them.
If you really want to do it, make sure that you connect a source switch so that you can select the source without risking damaging your speakers

I blew the output stage of my built in Dolby Prologic telly amp doing EXACTLY this!
Had to send the nearly new TV away to be repaired by Panasonic (major bummer!)..... warranty ...honest guv!
I then invested £5 in a switcher box....but shortly after that I bought a pukka AV amp kit, with video switching!........curse you What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision.......LOL
Edited to say - Actually it was my wife who blew it! I was always careful to make sure the HiFi was off when I switched on the TV, my wife didn't realise the importance of this....bless her!

As others have said, don't wire both the TV and hi-fi to the same pair of speakers - at best it'll harm the sound quality, and at worst you'll blow something up.
Does your hi-fi have a spare input for a tape deck, CD player or other device? If so, you could just connect the TV to this (using a low-level output such as the one that's almost certainly available on a SCART socket), and play the TV sound through the hi-fi this way.
A.
[Edited because I just realised that you're running 5 channel surround sound - usually TVs with this feature have five phono sockets on the back that can connect to an external amplifier. Use the front left and right outputs, set the hi-fi volume correctly and you should be fine].
