just bought one of these and it doesnt fit! to big for the hole!

man it shop said they are all the same size? are they?

Just put some insulating tape around it to stop the excess light escaping. You'll be fine.

There are two types to my knowledge: Toslink, and Mini toslink. The first is about 4mm square with the top corners "knocked off", and the second one is more like a mini jack plug.
Dixons/Comet/Curry's will advise.

There are indeed two types (annoyingly !).
Have a look at Maplin's website for the appropriate cables.
