Check out http://www.internetcamerasdirect.co.uk they have loads of reviews. I just bought a Canon Ixus 330. Very small, a good point and shoot camera with excellent results. Bought from Askdirect.com.

How much is the CD400 and what's the spec?
I've had a Nikon 775, which was excellent. Recently upgraded to Olympus C40Z. Haven't had much opportunity to use it, but obvious benefits are higher res and greater scope for manual adjustments. Definitely not everyone's requirements, but bought mainly for the higher res. I thought the Nikon was a great combo of ease of use, acceptable res, useful settings, and compact design.

How much is the Sony?
The new Nikon 5700 looks superb, especially for your zoom requirements.
I've got a Fuji 6900z which I think is pretty good, or you could also look at the Minolta Dimage 7i, which is soon being replaced with the 7hi so there may be good deals on that.
Usability is king with these things IMHO, so have a play

OK, just looked briefly at the CD400. It appears to be a serious piece of kit, out of my league. Only thing I can comment on is the zoom isn't great. There's prob a valid reason for this, but since you spec'd it as one of your requirements I thought I'd mention it. Storage is defo there - 1GB supplied!

If you want info on digital cameras I'd recommend you go to www.dpreview.com and look there - sound advice and impartial reviews. Also Steve's digicams is a very good site.
I'm not sure what you are looking for in a digital camera as I do most of my stuff with high-end film cameras and if I was in the market for a digital it would be a Nikon D1x, or the new Kodak Pro camera (14mp for $4000)...why? the only reason is because I have a heavy investment in Nikon gear. If you are partial to Canon then it's the new 11mp box or the D60 or D30.
If you haven't already invested in either Nikon or Canon SLR gear (i.e. serious lenses and accessories) then you might want to look at something a little less expensive - check out the Minolta Dimage 7i or the new Nikon hybrid. The Olympus E20 is a great camera too. Sorry, make that a terrific camera. But, as with all hybrids, if you want to move up to interchangeable lenses...you just lost money.
If it's point and shoot you want then you have as many choices as a standard scooby has horses. My honest advice is to (a) do a *lot* of research (b) stick to a known manufacturer and (c) have a lot of fun. If it's for showing your pics on the web then it's so much simpler! Almost anything would do !
Canon have just announced their Powershot G3 which means that the price of their G2 should start falling soon - those will be a REAL bargain. Might pick up one of those myself as they'll fit nicely in my shirt pocket. Perfect for those "wish I had a camera" moments.

thank you for all the replies....
the Sony CD400 is in the region of £1000 including the tripod stand, and the sepcial effect lenses and some other accessories etc...
after reading a lot of reviews, it still remains as my shortlisted one... i suppose the zoom is ideal, and everything else is spot on.

Just got myself a Minolta Dimage 7i
I think I got a very good deal from my mate at the local camera shop.
I paid £840 all in. This was £10 more than Jessops but included:
A decent camera bag worth at least £20
A additional set of recharegeable batteries and charger worth £30
An extra memory card "thingy" to plug into my laptop woth £30.
A memory card of 256k worth about £100.
A ggod deal I think![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

I'm now working through the 164 page CD-ROM manual to learn how it all works.

I've got the Dimage 7i too. Paid about £720 for it due to a special, special offer from wife's catalogue (Kays).
I, too, am ploughing through the cd rom manual!!!
Love the features, the zoom, and the excellent lens.
I've come from a Canon T90, so what I bought had to be fairly special, and I think it is.

Babydids, the stills on a DV are crap, ok for email but nothing else. The man needs a proper Digicam and seems to be looking in the right direction. I've got both and there's no comparison for stills. The "movie" mode on a digcam is crap too!
Horses for courses, thats all.
