Our central heating programmable timeswitch thingy keeps going through periods when it clicks on/off rapidly in succession, for no apparent reason. It's like it's got into a funny state, and can't decide whether to turn on or off.
Anyone got any ideas what might be causing it??!

You don't say, but I assume it's an electronic timer, rather than the old clockwork one?
If so, it's probably on it's last legs. They are easily replaced, by undoing one or two screws, usually underneath, and pulling the timer upwards (some go outwards at the same time).
New ones fit onto the same plug-in module, so need no new wiring. A 5 minute job.
Good makes include "Drayton, Tempus7" among others. I have had the Drayton for 14 years, and it's never put a foot wrong. My mate bought cheap, and is on his third.
Builder's merchants, plumber's merchants will advise.

Thanks for the tips. You're right - it's an electronic timer. I'll have a look and see if there are any loose connections, and if there aren't I'll replace it.
