bad customer service?

after asking on here which dvd home cinema package I should go for, I plumped for the sony davs550, and it looked great.
Found it in multiregion format for £500 delivered so I bought it on line.
The webiste indicated it was in stock.
I have since been checking the website every day to ote the status of my order, but it simply remains at confirmed!
I then saw a note saying we aim to send stuff out in 5 to 10 days.
Do you think this is acceptable for a web based electronics supplier?
It has probably been 10 days now since my order, but I bought it on semi impulse and want to be able to play with my new toy (also on impulse)!
The company is supposed to have a good reputation, but I must say so far I think the level of service is pathetic.
Company is called techtronics.
anyone else ordered from them before?

I've bought from techtronics, but it was a couple of years ago, so I can't remember what I ordered. Didn't have any problems though. Bear in mind that many web firms aren't 100% accurate about their stock levels, knowing they can blame incorrect data on 'IT issues'. So perhaps they didn't have it in stock in the first place?
Can you not phone them and chase it up?

As an addendum, 10 days is rather too long if they did actually have it in stock. Most stuff I buy from the web I receive 24 hours later e.g., bought a DVCam from Camerasdirect.co.uk, ordered at 2:15pm one day, it arrived at 10am the next morning.
I order a 60Gb hard drive for my laptop from the US on Wednesday night (via email) and the FedEx tracking site shows it as being in the UK already (delivery today or Monday). So 10 days from a UK company is really taking the p*ss....

they dont have a phone number for ringing except in emergencies!
all contact is via email.
I thougth 10 days was a joke.
everything else I order over net from uk companies comes next day.
Seriously p1ssed off about it.
Dont want to complain as I reckon thjey are malicious b@stard who will lengthen the process further if I do.

Adam,
I know how you feel, the dilema of paying extra (like in Dixons, Sony Centre etc.) and getting the product today, right now, or order online, save loads but have to wait for it.
10 days is a bit long in this day and age. I would suggest they didn't actually have it in stock and they are awaiting a delivery themselves ?
I guess you have emailed them and got no response ?
Cheers

I used Techtronics some time ago and I thought their service was brilliant. Perhaps things have changed, I'd hope not.
They do have a facility on their website where you can chat in real-time with their sales staff, perhaps that is worth a go.
I hope you get things sorted.

Did it have one of their region-free mods ?
I could probably understand a 10 day wait if it has to be worked on. Not really if its just shipped straight out.
Having said that I bought my TV from Letsbuyit.com 2 years ago, they quoted 28 Days delivery and it arrived on Day 28. Saving was worth the wait - but only just

techtronics is a funny one - I myself have bought from them but I actually went to there office to collect (I'm an impatient git) - I know of postings on other sites that half of the customers love them, other half hates them.
I used to order tonnes of stuff over the net, now I find more and more I'd rather just buy locally and have it there and then !
got my eyes on the new pioneer 656a at the mo - SACD and DVD audio

i never buy online from somewhere with no tel number so you can call first and MAKE SURE it will be with you next day.
not waited 10 days for ANYTHING EVER. i would dump the order and get it elsewhere.
