today i wanted to buy a tivo.

the above companies have been unable to help me in their stores or via their help line.

they have been so useless that i have now bought from elsewhere at greater cost because i would rather my money did not further the development of these places.

they have been, rude, uninterested, uninformed, unhelpfull, rude, rude, lacked good sales skills, rude, hung up on me, offered no help, rude and in general were rude.

i was always of the opinion that i would avoid them at all cost anyway...after today i can only imagine that the only reason i would ever go in one again was if i became stark raving insane.

Could've told you that anyway. They're a bunch of rude, uninformed, uncooperative, over-priced losers.

BTW, you forgot to mention PC World. They're another of the 'usual suspects' that provide this poor level of service.

Yes I'm female - that does not mean you can fob me off with your incredibly limited knowledge of PCs and expect me not to question you...

All the big shops seem to offer a similar non-service. I put this down to the fact that they generally haven't got a clue about what they're selling.

TIVO is a brilliant piece of kit. Produced by Thompson and is a hard drive video rocorder. Just will change the way you view the TV when you get one. Here is the forum: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/forumdisplay.php?s=208540e85dcf2eb03bc10dac7897ab7 3&forumid=14

Here is the Comet ad for reduced price £150:
http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/PartnerVisit?location=683866&partnerID=190&action= 1&tagID=no

Monthly or one-off fee for subs.

Really is good too.

Too right it changes the way you watch tv.
You have no time left because it records programs you didn't know were on that you love

As for currys, dixon and pc world, they are all the same company and cr@p

Question

Sorry for not reading the entire thread but has anyone mentioned how awfully rude those salespeople are?

Question

Someone's taking the p*ss.....as if they ARE rude? (Flamesuit:ON)
Seriously, the only things I get from them now are consumables that I need like yesterday.
EVERYTHING else comes off the net, and discounts range from 33% to 20%
I just don't know how those others can keep trading. There must be an awful lot of people out there willing to pay over the odds for crap sevice!

I used to work for Dixons Stores Group in a former life

The sales staff are under so much pressure to sell that Coverplan Insurance its unreal. When I working there they would often tell a customer that the equipment was out of stock if they didn't want to buy the cover so as not to make their weekly sales figures look bad.

(Allegedly of course )

I always try to avoid this chain of shops now.

Get SKY+ instead of a TiVO, you get sky on top which can't be bad.

Hmm... I just buy most stuff through the internet, except if I need it urgently. The sales staff put me off going in, as they ask what you want...when all you want to do is browse and take your time. In my local Curry's I spoke to the security guard as I was looking at a video camera - turns out he films weddings and stuff - so I took his advice and he offered you a users viewpoint, as opposed to the pressured sale. I sent a letter in saying he should selling the video stuff - he knew his stuff....what a difference it makes!

Unfortunately, history is littered with otherwise excellent products that went to the wall because another similar one came out at the same time, and the two weren't compatible.
About the only examples of compatibility are CD and Compact cassette. Shame really.
