Doesn't matter either way. You won't damage anything. If the steps are the wrong way, swap em.

You have got the right speaker on the right, not on the left?

Normally, Red is left and white (or sometimes black) is right.

You can easily check if you have things wired right using a balance control. And most AV amps have a test setting for setting them up.

Brun's right, whatever colour is plugged into whichever terminal (Left or Right) will work as long as it matches at the speaker terminals. Afterall it's just coloured to make it easy to identify seperate cables and to stop people putting Right Amp to Left and vice versa.

Easy way to remember is Red = Right (begins with same letter), White or Black = Left (since they don't).

I figured in the end my turntable to phono stage leads must be wrongly colour labelled on the plugs so switched them. The rest is seemingly coded ok all through, the power amps are monoblocs, so thats easy.

Thanks guys.

The industry standard is :-

White - Left
Red - Right

It does matter, otherwise the stereo imaging will be back to front

If the channels are swapped over sit with your back to the speakers and this will correct the sound.

Red for right, White for left, you may have your speaker terminals swapped over on the back of the amp.
If you get the cabling mixed up on the speakers (IE one speaker wired correctly and one speaker wired incorrectly)You will invert the phase on one of them and they will cancel each other out.
On the midrange and treble frequencies you won't notice it, but on the bass side of things 80% of it will vanish. Its a bit long winded explaning the mechanics of it (so I won't bother)
