Hollie enjoys them. OK to look at on other peoples houses, but would not like to live next door or have them myself.
Where my parents live, the street is like a competition! Who can make their house look the tackiest. That is Essex though

Used to have across-the-road-neighbours whose surname was Pratt, coincidentally enough and they used to go all out with their decorations. Every year would be the theme of that year - they had Teletubbies when they first came out, 101 Dalmations etc.. She would spend all her time creating the cutouts and decorating them, he would keep NPower happy by covering every square inch of his house and garden with lights...flashy lights, chaser lights, static lights...
They also used to dress up as Father & Merry Christmas and the children from the primary school would walk down with various cold teachers and gaze in rapt wonder at all the lights.
The year they did 101 Dalmations, they actually hid the 99 puppies about the garden and there was a competition to see who could find the most.

My lad likes them as does the misses. We don't do our house up though.
I used to think it was tacky but I quite like seeing them now
I see a house that's done up to the limit every morning and there's a classic scooby in the drive, so own up who's is it????

We have a few tasteful white lights across the top of the house and I think it looks nice Much better than all the dreary houses in the road <yawn>
...although I have yet to see one of those appalling giant snowmen/penguins/father Christmas' that they sell in B&Q outside someones house...bet I will by Christmas though

The last few times I've returned to the UK at Christmas we've had a real laugh driving round and seeing some of the shocking theme parks that people set up their houses as.
I used to think such people were weird. I still think they're weird, but I thank them for putting a smile on my face, at their own expense and electricity bill. It's like wild parties - you should always go to them, but never host them. Thankee Lordee for those people more stupid/daring/hedonistic for me who do.
I get a lot more enjoyment looking at these houses than I do from watching Big Brother - now THERE is a sad group of spectators!!

I believe its like the gold jewellery syndrome..... the amount of gold jewellery you hang on your person is inverseley proportional to your social class.
seconded only by the amount of lights you can daub your house with....
Cue Scoobynet posters disclaimer:- All the above is my own opinion...if you dont agree thats YOUR opinion and I don't care!

what car they have, what driveway they have, not wanting to be outdone, of course.
You snooty ****, that just goes to add to the hostility, now present in decent neighbourhoods!!!
Theres a street in Rayleigh (Essex) where all the houses are done up for charity.
gonna take my little boy there on saturday and video his face when he sees it all.
you can make a donation if you wish when you're there!!
Its Xmas for god's sake stop being so miserable

people may do as they wish
in my view it is tasteless and tacky.
if it was done in a more subtle and stylish way i would probably enjoy them a bit more.
trouble is there seems to be competition between neighbours as to who can have the most lights/snowmen/sleighs/santas etc.
a futile pursuit IMO but each to there own - they are probably the same people who ask similar questions as to why anyone would ever wish to spend the sort of money we folk do on our cars.

LOL. "If it was done in a more stylish way". Yeah, right. The whole point is to go for maximum tackiness, that's the fun.
Mind you, when they get an electrical problem which starts a fire and burns their house down with them in it, I suspect it's just Darwin in action.

My frigging neighbours have them - the only ones in the whole street Their garage roof is adorned with a large Santa and a reindeer & sledge, plus numerous lights. Whenever I go into the utility, I am met with this awful sight through the window

good god, nothing is immune from the "i hate X" SN'ers.
next time i go past a house all decked out with my kids saying "look dad, isnt that pretty....." i'll say "nooooo, according to SN'ers its a sign of low social standing and poor self awarness that is only usefull in being a tool to spot those who have no taste or personality....now chant after me... SCOOBS RULE SCOOBS RULE SCOOBS RULE......"
GET A LIFE YOU MISARABLE XMAS HATING SCUM, i hope santa brings you a kick up the ****!
