Been playing a bit recently and getting to like it. Especially as local alley does unlimited games for £5.99 during the week which is an easy way to spend a day with mates.
Aint that good but wanna get better. Any regulars reccomend getting my own ball as I hate the rental ones as they are sweaty, chipped, and the finger holes are never the right size. Usually play with a 14lb ball.
Simon.

And get those wonderful shoes too. My mate Rods is a member of a Bowling Team .Tells me great tales of 'Bowling nights' at his local. Apparently the chicks love it.
Recommend a heavy ball as the lighter ones just wither away at the end. Strike strike Strike with Rods heavy ball. Yeeeehhhaaaaaaa!!!

quite simple really, dont aim directly for the front pin, you want to it right on the side preferably at an angle as so to carry on and hit the pin to its 'side'

the main advantage of buying a bowling ball is that u get it fitted for u...
means u dont hold onto it... but it fits u like a glove
that is crucial to getting the spin correct... coz it comes from releasing the ball off of the thumb first and then the 2 fingers
shoes do help, coz u get a consistantly fitting shoe
get a lesson or 2 from the pro when u buy the ball.. he should give u some pointers when he is fitting the ball...
i was getting about 180 - 199 (never quite 100) with the house *****...
then got this grippy one.. and got <150
but got used to it (heavy is good coz it slows the swing down and u cant throw it... coz that is bad for the action)
now i curle it into the front most times
tis great fun!
score not much improved, but thats coz ive been too busy to keep at it the last few months.
dunno if thats helped...

I have benn bowling for many a year
I've spent all my money on bowling gear.
I am currently using a Uranium filled titanium ball.
It weighs in at 27.5 Pounds and is Ideal for maximum pin destruction. I recommend that you get one.

27.5 lbs - are you built like the proverbial brick sh*thouse? I thought 16lb ***** were heavy. Doesnt the ball return system struggle to get that beast back to you?
I quite fancy one of these transparent Brunswick ***** with a hand grenade or skull in the middle. When they drill the ball for your fingers are there different setups or are they all pretty standard?
Simon.

AFAIK 16lb is the max weight (its been a while since I played so things may have changed)
When you have a ball drilled it is custom fitted to your hand. Can get quite complicated in that not only does the size of the holes vary from person to person but also the pitch they are drilled at. All this is to make the ball come off the hand smoothly. Other factors may include finger and thumb inserts, offset drilling to make the ball react differently... the list goes on.
The more you get into the sport the more complicated it can get (not to mention expensive )

as mark says
i limited myself to a 100 quid ball n 30 quid shoes
got a reactive one...
the ***** have have different curve ratings...
means how grippy they are - means how much they curve in at the end...
i got low/medium grip
the house ***** are basically straight *****...
go for it
tis great fun

No. U get pissed. Get a few strikes and spares and think your doing better.
Lol we played a few too many games the other day so gave our hands a rest and bowled left handed. Up I step and get a strike with my first ball. Went a bit downhill after that though

I used to bowl weekly and would not use a house ball as repeated use may damage your hand and you can't get used to hosue ***** as its hard to find the same one twice and the fit to your hand makes a major difference. I had to give up bowling as it was putting stress on my knees and one of my fingers got injured !
Anyway I'd definitely get a ball fitted and drilled for you. Weight is a personal thing. I am a straight bowler and prefer a light ball , 12lb . I found heavier ***** didn't suit my style and put too much strain on my hand.
If you want to improve, practice or get a coaching session. You can pick a ball up from about £40 for a cheapish straight ball and pay several times this for a " reactive " grippy ball that the " hook " bowlers use.
