How do you feel about this...
Excerpts from an article in yesterday's Sunday Telegraph

Excerpts from an article in yesterday's Sunday Telegraph
Most of us are so appalled by the whole idea of torture that we are inclined to claim that it does not work. Unfortunately it does - at least sometimes. In 1995 al-Qaeda planned to hijack 11 airliners flying out of the Philippines, with a total of 4,000 people aboard, and to crash them into the Pacific.
The Philippine intelligence agencies, suspecting a plot, arrested and tortured a man they thought was one of the terrorists. They broke most of his ribs, burned his genitals with cigarettes and poured water into his mouth until he couldn't breathe. After 67 days, he came up with the information which enabled the Filipinos, together with the Americans - who were provided with the fruits of the interrogation - to frustrate the plot.
"In a sense, we already use torture anyway," one CIA officer told me. "When we arrest a foreign national who we think has important information, we hand him over to a foreign government such as the Egyptians. Its police will arrest the suspect's wife and children, put them at the other end of the same cell, and then produce a couple of pit bulls and say: 'Talk, or we let these dogs go at your wife and child.' That usually works."
One senior FBI officer told me: "If I knew that the man in front of me had the critical information that would enable the US to prevent a catastrophic attack from taking place on its soil, I would torture him, and take the consequences. Wouldn't you?"
...there are US lawyers who now advocate the introduction of "torture warrants". The FBI would have to apply to the courts for them in the same way they obtain search warrants.

But what about the other 150 men (or women!) that were suspects, arrested and tortured, but knew nothing whatsoever about any plots?
That is disgusting!!!
On a similar subject, did anyone else see "A 21st Century War" tonight on C4? America at it's worst![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)

If its a suspect with no previous history or no case file then its a different ball game, if its someone who you have proof is in the know then he is fair game IMHO.
U honestly can tell me that if you found out this person was involved in a plot that was going to kill innocent people including children you wouldn't do what it took to prevent that loss of life? If you can say u wouldnt do it then u r as bad as the perpetrators for sitting back and letting it happen
Terrorists are beyond the protection of human rights, they have none IMHO, they have no regard for loss of life and under those circumstances they deserve everything they get!
I'd torture and kill every feking member of Al Quaeda if had the opportunity What regard for life do they have?

If you torture a person long enough, they'll confess to anything regardless of whether they did it or not. Besides, this is not a new thing and its good that America has finally gone public about it.

Next they'll be making suspected terrorists swallow bamboo shoots again and then making them drink gallons of water..

Wow for once i know something about a subject lol well its a known fact that if you torture someone too much like people have said they will tell you what you want to hear wich is no good at all.The brits use mind games leave you in a room with loud white noise and wear you down mentaly trick you into what they need to know ect ect. So im not too sure you would find the yanks doing it that way but you never know they are a little silly at times lol.

(even though i remembered the same episode!)
Interesting concept that the brits were exempt from this. I remember reading about the falklands campaign where they captured a trooper in front of journalists. After and hours or twos "interrogation" they came out of the out house they were using and one of the journos asked what sort of techniques and questions they were using "Nah, gave the **** a kicking" was the answer....
The world is a nasty place.

What bout mind isolation? like in camp X-ray! they give you like a month of being blind, deaf and tied up to make you go mad and spill the beans! they would never crack me, i'd crack them with my madness! chanting various football chants and humming the theme of airwolf and the A-team all night long.. some nursery rhymes... little miss... see, i'm doing ya head in already aren't I?? :P

Hmm, I feel safer already. It's a good job we all have the americans to look after us, and make sure we (the yanks and us) are the only ones with weapons of mass destruction.
