Well i wouldnt bother because this drunk ploughed into the back of me i demanded cash to repair my car to avoid my insurance going up even tho it would be a non fault, he had no cash and stagged off to get a chinese!!! my mate rung the coppers and asked do you get £500 and they said "YES" so they came arrested him, did i get the £500 did i **** i even had to pay out my own cash to get the car fixed.

The reason you didn't get the 500 squid is 'cos,as in all business transactions, you have to cut out the middle man(rossers)& deal direct with Crimestoppers.

It helps if you can turn them in before the "event" as well.

A pre-emptive strike as it were.

I wasn't that bothered about the £500 i'm just mad i had to pay to fix my own car becuase he wasn't insursed! oh well at least i have the satisfaction knowing he was sent down because i was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Then again it was my mate that phoned the cops and shopped him...

I would NEVER grass on a mate for drink driving. If they are a mate and have an error of judgement and decide to drive whilst over the limit, you quite simply sort a taxi for them.

If they told on you everytime you drove your Scoob enthusiastically, you'd probably be banned a long time before them!!

I have a plan.
Go to your local pub (well not too local of course) and go around collecting names and addresses for a free raffle to win a car, giving out tickets as you go. At the end of the evening, see who's left and pissed and then gets in a car to drive home. Then tip off the police. Dead easy. 3 people a week will net me 6 grand a month and tax free at that!!
If I can manage one each night (5 day working week of course) I will net 10 grand.

I'm with G-Man on that one: I'd punch a mate out before I shopped him.

I've had 6 months off, (and no, NOT for drink driving, for 112mph in a Vauxhall Tigra at 04:05am on a straight empty dual carridgeway surrounded by nothing but fields) and it damn near wrecked my life. It costs me over two months wages to insure my scoob TPFT after being banned, so calling the rozzers is not something I would consider unless there was absoloutely nothing else I could do. To the extent of driving a p1ssed up mate home who had decided it would be a good idea whilst I still had 3 weeks left on my ban. Better I get another 2 months than he kills someone.

If someone who said they were my friend 'shopped' me for driving when banned (which I would like to add I only did the once, and justifiably, I felt) then I would make damn sure they regretted it. If they supposedly cared about me as a friend, then why didn't they just take the keys / cut the battery lead / p1ss in the petrol tank / offer to drive me / pay for the taxi fare / talked me out of it.

Obviously, you'd try that first. But it's not always as simple as that.

A few years ago, I was having a ****-up for my birthday, and one guy was happily drinking in everyone else's round, but refused to cough up for his own beer. That would have been fine (we don't mind standing people an afternoon's drinking if they're skint) but he was just being tight, not actually short of cash.

Anyway, eventually a couple of my other mates who didn't know him, got a bit sick of this and challenged him to buy a round or pay for his own drinks for the rest of the day. Things got a bit arsey, and he stormed off in a sulk. He told me he was going back to the house (where we'd all left our car keys) to get his ****, so I gave him the door key.

Next thing I know, somebody points out that he's got into his car, locked the doors and is starting the engine. Knowing he's had 5 pints or so at this stage, we tried to stop him by standing in front of the car, but he drove towards me without stopping and almost ran me down (at a slow speed, but I still smacked my leg on the wing whilst getting out of the way). He then headed out onto the main road and away.

Unsurprisingly, despite the fact that he was a mate I'd known for about 10 years, I called the police. They picked him up on the A3 about 45 minutes later, by which time he'd crashed the back of his car (nobody ever found out how) and then written off somebody else's car (and his own) at 60mph. He claimed to remember nothing from the time he was sitting at the table arguing about beer.

It subsequently turned out that he'd only got his licence back 8 months previously from a drink-drive ban (he'd told me he just couldn't afford to run a car for that period). What's stupid is that as a close friend, if he'd told me, I could have made an extra effort to put his keys beyond reach when we were out drinking. As it was, my reaction to this whole story was total disgust - I've not spoken to him since.

So it's not always possible to stop anyone (even a mate) getting behind the wheel after a few drinks. And sometimes the only answer is to call the police - regardless of how good a friend he is....

Fair comment Mark: I think you did the right thing. If you don't have the opportunity to stop someone then you have no choice, and NOTHING is ever cut-and-dried black-and-white.

Hey, no need to apologise. You can't always foresee these things - I'd always been of the opinion that I'd never call the cops (you're twisting my melon, man) on a mate. But there you go.

I wasn't upset - in hindsite the bloke was a tw@t anyway.
