Would it not make much more sense, if you're only going for 6 months to rent your house out..???
Seeing, what has happened to UK house prices in the last year it would make sense to keep a foot in the UK property market.
Will you have some sort of working visa there? As without getting a US social security number (which requires a visa) getting any kind of work will be impossible.
I lived there for the last four years and my kids were not allowed to get working visas, although I had one. Without these and a Social security number they couldn't even get any sort of cash in hand type job or check out type job, as the employers are too scared of the INS and the IRS
Just some thoughts for you.
Cheers

Ur car will have to stay in UK, but IMHO, selling ur property is a brave decision - it may go up & up or the bubble may burst in the most humungous of ways. Anyway, with low inflation, cash is king.

Do you have somebody to look after the Scoob? Not good just to park it up for six months, even with a few precautions. Best to have somebody take it out once a week for 20 or 30 miles to warm the engine through and then blat it for a bit.
I'd do it the other way around. Keep the house (assuming renting is an option) and sell the car.

I did consider doing this with the 22b for the last 12 months that I lived there. But I would seriously doubt whether it is financially viable for just 6 months

Where are you going to be living?
You will need to get a Visa and Social Security Number, but that shouldn't be too difficult.
You might as well use this as an opportunity to drive some cars you can't get in the UK. Get a Mustang Cobra or a Mercury Marauder or something equally as obnoxious.

You can only stay in the USA for a maximum of 3 months without a Visa. I have a B1/B2 visa which lets me stay for 6 months, but i cant earn a living with that.
Maybe he has dual citizenship. My cousins do being half American.

U can have a RHD & non SAE conforming car in the US for a maximum of 12mths, providing u're a registered car importer & the car is for demo purposes. After that it's either scrapped or taken out of the US.
The cost & paperwork for doing it means it isn't viable.

Thanks for all the info.
Well tell you the truth we are thinking of renting a car and travelling around, starting in New York (relations) and maybe down to Florida, Memphis, dallas onto L.A. and back maybe internal flight to Montreal and home,(how long do you think???)staying in motels.
johnfelstead thanks for letting us know we can stay for 3 months without a visa.
Selling the house will net me £100,000 after paying off mortgage and as i am a lgv1 driver i think i can get a job on my return and also get back on the houseing ladder, the scoob is being looked after by relations here.

New York to Florida would be a 2 day drive (I drove from Rochester, NY to Miami, FL in 25.5 hours straight averaging around 80mph). Driving from Florida to LA would probably be a 4 day drive. LA to Montreal would be another 4 or 5 days.
