Did I do the right thing dobbing in mad Volvo driver?
#1
I was wondering if I did the right thing today: Making safe progress in the falling snow - taking care but not being a granny - maniac Volvo estate up my a@$e weaving about then pulls out to overtake on to oncoming car at 100 yds, so slam on brakes etc. Anyway, he then swerves around going from left kerb to right all over the place, slamming on brakes etc then overtakes away around blind bend etc etc..... Hmm, devil takes over so I catch up to get his reg and he carries on driving like that so I popped in to see plod and suggested that the bloke had been drinking. Off they flew to try catch him!
If I'd had my tactical heat seeking nuclear tipped rocket on-board I'd have let him have it, but as I didn't I thought plod should at least pay him a visit for his own sake. Would people here have done the same thing or should I have minded my own business?
B@*$%@y Volvo drivers!

Should have thrown some "jacks" out the window when he was behind you. Its worth doing as if a number of people report him, he'll probably get some **** fisting from the rozzers. Or a medal

yes you did the right thing
Many years ago I was reported to the police for a bad overtaking manouvre, and they came tracked me down, and give me a good telling off
couldnt do anything about it tho, no proof, and the guy who reported me, used his phone whilst driving

Thing is we've all been daft and had a close shave but this chap was driving like he was on acid. I hope that if plod visits it helps him engage brain so he stays alive to old age rather than taking out an innocent family etc.

I agree. You did the right thing.
I have also done same thing, the day I got my scooby was taking the girlfriend out for a drive to show her the car and came upon a merc weaving all over the road in the path of oncoming traffic etc so i call the cops and tailed him relaying his position, he was cornered and pulled by the jammers and found to be at least twice the drink drive limit !!

I hope you didn't delay him on his way to the hospital to see his dying wife..........

Regacy - thats very poor reasoning. Theres no excuse for driving like an idiot, endagering others lives. Try explaining it to the mother of the children he may knock down on the crossing for driving like that. If you genuinely have an emergency and need to get somewhere quick then call the Plod and ask nicely for an escort. That might help.

I admit it is extremely unlikely that they would help but its worth a go - lol.
"Sorry sir, you want us to escort you as you travel up the M1 at 140mph ? Sure no problem. We will send an helicopter aswell."

You did the right thing, it feels bad but you know you could not live with yourself if you heard of something happening later!
Not long ago my missus was paying for petrol when a guy stood behind her asked the time, he *stank* of alcohol and seemed "merry" if not legless, we then watched him come out of the station shop, get in his zafira and drive off.
We rang the police with his reg, they said they'd find him \ talk to him and thanks, felt bad to do it but you may preventing death or injury by doing it - and that maybe to the driver!

Last year my wife was rushed into hospital by ambulance.
In my attempt to get to the hospital I topped 165mph on the A3.
It frightened me but still to this day I believe my actions were entirely justified.
(ps it all worked out ok in the end)
Flame me if you must but until you've been in that sort of situation you don't know how you would react.
And I'd be astonished to see any of you doing 70 in the slow lane or pulling over to phone the police (it's illegal to use your mobile whilst driving after all)

A few years ago my dad needed a kidney transplant. He has been waiting for a suitable donor for about 10 years.
Anyway, we finally got a call saying one had been found and he was to get to Edinburgh PRONTO.
He was at the local infirmary for dialasys at the time so we asked about an ambulance.
No ambulance available. Patient Transport sherpa minibus could take him though.
I drove him there myself. The doc said to drive as fast as I thought safe and not to worry about speeding tickets as I would almost certainly be let off due to mitigating circumstances, so long as the speeds involved werent ridiculous.
I was also told that if I got stuck in traffic I could call 999 and ask for a police escort.
We got there in one piece in bloody good time in the end. Sadly I didnt get a chance to call for an eascort though
