Good espresso machines?!
#1
Good afternoon all!
Being a major fan of Espresso/Capuccinos and the like (plus having lived in an Italian ski resort for 2 years! ) I am keen to purchase a decent home machine.
Any pointers and makes or models and especialy, places to buy from in the UK would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Jon

Mossman, I've got a Nespresso machine which has capsules which have the coffe in, instead fo a true machine - they've got a web site (I can't remember whether it's .com or .co.uk), it works pretty well, and looks good. You order the capsules over the internet from Nespresso themselves, and they come in a couple of days. The machine itself came from John Lewis.
The machine itself is a Magimix. However, I know that you can get really expensive ones. I suppose it is a case of the more you spend the better it is.

Mossman,
I'll pass you over to Melly who's a Barista.........
The more expensive the machine the better it will be but the Morphy Richards model for about £50 is a good starter. You can do filter coffee by the jug or espresso, cappuccino or lattes. Practice on this (or something similar) until you see how often you'll use it. Then do some barista training and upgrade to what you will have discovered to be your dream machine later.
Melly
Apparently it's all in your wrist action....gotta get your foam right....and don't forget to rotate your milk round the jug.
Best latte I've ever had is at home.....Lucky me!!!

I bought a Breil? 'Chamonix' for £99 from Whittards of Chelsea. It's not bad for a mid-range sort of machine.
It has a water tank, water pump and steam generator for frothing the milk.
I like it, but you do need experience to get the best results.
I'd get one with a pump rather than a steam or hand powered one. The pressure is important and a pump should be consistent.

As to Barista training, I have had 2 years worth knocking out more espressos, ristrettos, machiatos, corretos etc than most people dringk in their whole lifes! Even cappuccino sensa schuima! Cappucino without froth! How strange is that!

Just for the political correct people, don't buy a Krupps. Why???
They are the same people who had the gas chambers for Hitler!!
