Guys and Girls,
The terms and conditions of Scoobynet are quite clear. Among others, you agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this BB to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law.
Unfortunately a small number of posters in this forum continually push, and cross the boundaries of what is acceptable. As a result, the moderators recently have had a significant increase in complaints and requests to edit/delete/modify posts and threads.
Some of you see this as overmoderation. The majority see it as good practice.
If you choose not to comply with the terms you agreed to when registering, then please accept that your posts may be subject to deletion or amendment.
I am sure the majority will agree that this is an entirely realistic standpoint If, however, anyone has a problem with this then I would suggest you take your posts elsewhere.
Thanks
D

What about the moving of threads from here to Muppets because one or two people add a bit of humour to a thread. That is often IMO over-moderation too.
Do we now have to be totally serious in every reply

I have to say that in general over the 3 odd years I've noticed a general dumbing down of the quality of threads. That doesn't mean to say it's a worse place, but I'm more selective of those that I read.
I personally applaude the moderators, it must be like being a referee, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.
I find the most tiresome threads those which say, "why was my thread on such and such deleted? The reason is simple, that in someones oppinion it overstepped one of the boundaries as mentioned by Diablo above.
We can argue political correctness until we are blue in the face, but the fact remains that it is here with us, and sadly here to stay for the forseeable future.
So the bottom line is if the Mods get one reasonable complaint they are dutybound to delete the thread. Given the number of posts vs the number of Moderators I don't see how it is practical for them to send a detailed e-mail to each person who had a thread deleted. To do so would be a waste of their time.
Many of you may not remember but the board came close to closure once before, I for one don't want to see a time where this looks likely again.
So please, for the good of the board and the sanity of the moderators, please put your brain into gear before your fingers.

I think what we all want is to be told why! we are not allowd to use the word "p***" all we keep getting told is we don't know the full story, maybe if we were told it then people would toe the line and not use it, what is the big secret???

Address all complaints. WHY SHOULD WE FOLLOW SUCH STUPID COMPLAINTS?????
Heres a Complaint ..... Why has scoobynet not still managed to sort out the Charity money that we all wanted to give.
Concentrate on the important stuff first.
And yes all this Complaint stuff is bull schit.. (Unless that Nonce thread realy was bad???)
You are just saying lay down and take all this crap that these "Humans" demand whilst destroying this country
Again answer why the moderators allowed such terrible things to be said about "jade" from "Big load of schit""" You allowed pictures of her to be posted making her look like a Pig............
What about the anti muslim posts after sept 11
So you think your fair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apart from it has been said several times "it has been deemed an offensive term".
I would just add it to the bad language filter and let the system "*" it out.
Post aimed at Wurzel's post.

lets have a 'hypothetical' situation here.
Webmaster / whoever was deemed by a (p word) to be responsible for the derogotary comments about them on his website.
lets say for arguments sake threats were made against his person/family if these comments did not stop on his board.
put yourself in the same situation, would you not ask that people stopped posting this sort of thing?
(cue comments from tough guys sitting behind keyboards saying how brave and fearless they would be in that situation)
Now you OR I don't know whether something like this happened. But I think you'll often find if people have a good reason for asking something, its sufficient for you to take it at face value and believe them (I believe its called common courtesy) ESPECIALLY when they are the ones providing you with the facilities to have a go at them about it.
Is it really that hard to understand?
Luke - if you had a brain cell you'd be dangerous.

OTOH, I think we should all be allowed to have a pop at politicians as they're fair game, IMHO. I mean, they sign up for the job knowing they're going to get eggs thrown at them, etc.

seeing that my family background is Irish/Italian and Sri lankan. My wife is muslim. I live part time in a Muslim state. Most of my friends are indian and turkish. i agree racism is terrible and cruel.
But thats what is coming if we dont sort this country out.
Its not just 100% hatred..some of us are concerned

carl - There is also the fact that we employee them as well!
I'm not sure the trend of postings by the minority identified by Diablo is about race/religious intolernace it is more about a lack of manners and courtesy.
I think a lot of things about people I don't convay.
"Treat people as you would want them to treat you" as the saying goes.

What I don't understand is the rationale behind locking or deleting of threads. It seems to be based upon the number of complaints you receive rather than whether the content actually threatens the board. Anyone could be offended by anything, but being an arbitrary moral censor is completely slap-dash and will alienate the long-standing members of the board. By deleting those threads you consider 'undesirable', you are also endorsing every thread you don't - which is a whole new can of worms.
Still, you guys are the moderators and it's your BBS / your perogative. When it all goes to bollox just don't say we didn't warn you.

Well that's just antogonistic. Not big, or for that matter - clever. I expect more from a moderator"
I dont mind....I can understand their point ....to a point.
if a person on this board has been threatend etc then we should be told so that we can understand the request. And i hope respect it.
"jlanng - You don't think that some of the topics and comments made recently are alienating the members of the BBS? "
yes normal tax paying law abiding members of society.

Obviously if a thread receives many complaints, or is in breach of the forum rules, then that's a different matter. Personally, though, I find Political Correctness offensive in itself - it stifles freedom of expression - and I don't think it's healthy for a vocal few to dictate what the majority should and should not be allowed to discuss.
