That is awful Luke, If they weren't so PC on the Religious ground, The muslim community would be held up en-mass for sexual discrimination. I think that they have a long path to tread (either that of they got lost on the way).

Islam is an oppressive religion full stop. Look at the way they treat women. The government talk about sexual descrimination so why not give those rules to the Muslim community? We have to abide by these rules!
I went to Tunisia on my Hols. They had old women digging holes in the ground whilst the men sat on their ars*s doing nothing but playing dominos in Cafes and smoking. What a great country-NOT.

This has everything to do with the culture that has established itself. Religion is part of this culture, but is not the driving force of the culture in either Tunisia or Cyprus yet it happens.
I'll not go off on religion, as I don't personally believe it's a good thing, but blaming it for everything is just plain wrong. Yes, it is without doubt the cause for wars and intolerance but to a lot of people it is an utterly essential part of their day to day life.
Polite request: Can we please keep any debate civil without resorting to name-calling, insults and pettyness which reflects badly on anyone associated with this board?

I have lived in a muslim country for 2 years and wasn't impressed with the way they treated their women. Found it disgusting TBH.

I'm not sure I'd put it down to religion solely (cf. Cyprus...)
There's an opposing view to everything though - imagine a predominantly muslim country viewing our, ah "adult entertainment" industry. That, from a different set of morals, is the worst exploitation of women imaginable! ("They even have nude women in their best selling daily paper")
I don't want to go PC-crazy, as I hate it, but I do want to see a balanced argument that doesn't just draw on one side of an argument without considering differing viewpoints of our own treatment of the same subject.
The facts of come cases are clear cut though, I'll accept that.

I can undserstand that some may argue that an "English Lifestyle" should be embraced by people settling here. To then insist upon other countries/regimes doing the same is surely the epitome of hypocrisy.

I totally agree our society is far from perfect. USA is obsessed with the adult sex industry which is a goo dthing for us males but exploits the women. However this isn't across the board.
Myself I just can't identify with the mad mullahs who come over to Britain to live here and have oppressive customs. Westernized Muslims however are the same as me and want to integrate.

But as you wish to dispense with "theoretical nonsense" perhaps you would furnish some factual data to inform the debate.
e.g. Would you let us know the number of Islamic countries you lived in and for what period of time?
Given you possess this detailed exposure to their customs and religious practice. Of many local tribeswomen you had opportinity to discuss this subject with how many felt oppressed by their traditional role in that society?
Or are you perhaps drawing generalisations based upon a western perception of "civilisation" with it's laudible levels of equality, rampant alchohol/drug abuse, record levels of underage pregnancy and unrelenting increases in violent crime.
