Providing the vehicle was imported from or originated in another EC country, a UK dealer cannot refuse to carry out warranty work. It is covered under the Treaty of Rome all to do with free trade and open markets, and in fact VW were fined substantial amounts of money not that long ago for that very reason.
What many dealers tend to do is agree to do the warranty work but give UK supplied vehicles priority so that means the import vehicles can wait for weeks before they are even looked at. What I am not sure about is whether the work must be done within a reasonable time frame.
It may be worth paying a visit to the CAB for clarification, but the bottom line is that they cannot refuse the work on the grounds mentioned above.

Remember they only have to honour the Manufacturer's Warranty. (for many cars just the 1st year). If subsequent years warranty are underwritten by the UK subsidary then this won't be applied to euro-ipmorts. This was the case for Subaru until recently.

Problem solved - he was dealing with the muppets at the dealers, a quick phone call to hyundai head office showed a 60000 mile warranty for the car, and a scheduled warranty fix!
