Yes you can.

If you don't send off for your licence within (i think) 2 years you will have to retake your test again.

Well done and be careful out there!

So what car are you taking out for your first spin?

And be careful, as everyone says - I nearly killed myself a few times when I passed my test thinking I was invincible

I look back now at a few incidents in my first year of driving and wonder how I escaped harm. At the time I just thought everyone else was at fault

Yes you can
Cue stupid woman in green jumpsuit

I remember some of the stupid things I did in my first week of passing. Overtook a car thinking my Mum's 1.1l 205 was a Ferrari. Also pulling out into the right hand lane coming up to a roundabout thinking it was a dual carriageway!

Am a better driver now......

Steady away with it! I never have been a complete *** behind the wheel, but i do look back and wonder how i've remained bump/crashless with no points to show for it.
Remember that a moment of madness could have a lifetime of consequences.
The most true thing ever said to me was "you don't start learning to drive until you've passed your test"

Enjoy and go find your dad's car keys

Seriously though, well done.

Two seriously happy parents.

We're going out for a drink tonight.

Any chance of a lift?

Congratulations.....

Just don't do what I did - passed my test with no minor faults.........three months later was in hospital after nearly killing myself and my brother by rolling my parents' car in an impressive display of aero-acrobatics involving trees, hedges, grass verges and a sliding roof finish.

Wink

Scooby K, Cheers, Dads very proud, well at least it looks like he is
Not sure about Saturday though, I'm at work and the Scooby is off the road with a battered Back Box, doesn’t sound too healthy.

Dream Weaver, I've scrimped and saved and bought myself a T-reg 1.4 Clio
Thankfully there were no incidents on the first run I'm hoping run 2 will be just a safe.

Richard, If I asked for the keys he would laugh rather loud in my direction. I'm thinking of doing an advanced driving course, one which gives a discount on insurance

Deano, Too right!!!

Clarebabes, lol

Joni, Thanks very much

Brun, If that saying is true, I can now start learning

LMWRX, Very stylish.
No minor faults - very impressive, i had 4 and they were all for different mirror faults. oops

Thanks very much guys and gals

Cool

My advice to you is go for the Pass Plus - that gives you around 10% discount IIRC with most insurance companies.

Advanced Driving is recommendable, but don't do it for insurance drops - most places don't accept that!!!! If they do, then you will find that the quotes are higher to start with.... That is what I found.

Certainly after nearly 7 years of driving, I now know that I really know **** all and have loads to learn!!!!
Get on a skid pan/skid car course too......invaluable!!!

Good luck, have fun and safe driving.

JR - Cool car to have as your first one - so whats the first mod then? Exhaust I would think

I can highly recommend motorway lessons as well. They cost a bit, but a week after passing I did 2 hours on the M62, Saturday lunch time, lashing down with rain.

I still remember what he taught me after 12 years - invaluable

hmmm mods??? Well i was thinking some ICE as the first thing, then maybe some kind of exterior styling and then an exhaust. Only problem after that is the added insurance

I've also heard that the Motorway lesson on the past plus scheme is a 4 hour slog

But what the hell I'm looking forward to it all.

Cheers

Congratulations.

PassPlus is definitely worthwhile. My son did it fairly recently and talking to his instructor there are no fixed times for any of the 6 parts of it. You get the certificate when the instructor is satisfied you have reached the required standard. Most seem to reckon on 6 to 8 hours for all of it.

Most (maybe all) of the insurance companies that support it give you an immediate 1 year no-claims discount, so if you stay claim free you befit each year until you reach the maximum. If you are initially driving on someone elses policy you can defer the reduction for up to 2 years.

For his motorway bit my son did M1 junction 14 to Staples Corner then round N. Circular to Ikea and back up the M1. He started this at 4 o'clock on a wet Friday afternoon. I've been driving nearly 40 years and wouldn't do that for fun

Nothing to add really, just remember you have learned to pass a test. Learning to drive takes a lot longer, some people never get there.
If you survive the first year you should be OK.
