I hate being British!!

Sometimes I wish I was born in another country that actually sticks up for themselves and can have National pride without people thinking you're a member of the BNP.
Whats wrong with a National Identity? Why does it only come out when the world cup is on?

Popeye, I think that a lot of what you say is complete hogwash.
I think that you are dangerously misguided in the way you see many things that happen in the world.
But I will fight to the death to protect your right to say and think these things because that is what being British is about.
We are a free society who are, at the moment, having a bit of a crisis. Democracy is great but it is a double edged sword - if the only people who make use of it are extremists (as they are at the moment) then its days are numbered.
Oh, and I don't think you're really a racist or an extremist - I may not agree with you all the time but I respect your right to have an opinion. I just think it should be an informed one

Britain should be for Britains.
Why should we allow mosques etc to be built in the Uk when our chosen religion is C of E. Lets go to a Muslim country and see if their government would fund a C of E church or give you a house and dole money come to that. Why do all these ethnic minorities think that they are not bound by are laws and are discriminated against. If they dont like our coontry then theyhave the option to pi55 off dont they.

Also Co55ie C of E carries very little weight in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland... what with it being the Church of England.
I was Christened Presbatrian (spelling way off I sure there is a "y" in there some were) so were should I go? BTW born in England to English parents and English (2), Scottish (1), Irish (1) Grandparents.

I agree that England should be for the English, but look at it this way, I bet somewhere along the line you all have foreign blood (that includes, Scottish, Irish and Welsh). I love England and I'm proud to be English but my gran is Italian and if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be here!
Alot of the 'coloureds' (I know, sweeping statement, gross generalisation etc etc......) were born here and are third or fourth generation, so technically BRITISH.
I don't agree with letting as many refugees in but bleating on about it won't stop the government from bringing them in all the same.
Get a grip and find something meaningful in your life!!!

Christian is probably the largest majority, but even they can't agree with each other
I'm Scottish, but proud to be British. I'll happily stand next to to anyone who wants to defend Britain as a nation regardless of their religion or ethnic background. Anyone wanting to emigrate to this country should be made to pledge their alligiance to the country and queen, otherwise they can **** off.
If someone wants to live here, then fight against us in Afghanistan (or wherever), then I'll be the first to hang them up by their *********.
Stefan
P.S. I'm not proud of so-called Britains who can't even spell or communicate in their native language

Exactly my point who mentioned race or colour Britain should be for Britsh people. That is not in anyway a racist statement. If people wish to live in our country they should be willing to abide and accept our culture as we would in their respective countries.
It is getting to the point were owning a union jack flag in this country is seen as racist incitation.

Popeye, I'm not saying I'm better informed. Perhaps "informed" was the wrong word - "reasonable" might have been better.
FWIW, though, I have spent the majority of my working life either in the armed forces, working as a consultant in related fields (an no that does not mean I was a mercenary) or as a journalist. This at least gives me a degree of experience on both sides of the fence.
I have been shot at by Catholics and Protestants, by Muslims, Jews and Christians, by Marxists and by mercs, who are about as capitalist as you get. Funnily enough I have also been helped, protected, patched up and so on by the same diverse range of humanity.
For the record, I am a white English C of E man who is as uncomfortable with the excesses of Christian extremists (Inquisition, anyone?) as I am with Muslim fundamentalism, radical feminism, bigotry and discrimination.
I don't consider this the place to compare the merits of different religions, but being married to someone who was born and grew up as part of a christian minority in an Islamic country I have certain reservations that I shall keep to myself.
Does that answer the question?

red_dog104,
How far back in history have you traced your nationality. If your great, great, great, great, great father happens to be Irish (or whatever) how does that make you any more (or less) English than someone with African, Indian (or whatever) roots?
This isn't directed at you, but a lot of people think just because they are white, they are more English, Scottish, Irish or Welsh than anyone else.
My Dad is Czech and I point out to him (when he moans about asylum seekers) that he's just as foreign as they are, even though he's been here for over 30 years.

And people wonder why many Scots, Irish and Welsh harbour such bad feeling towards the English
Co55ie, if you cannot even get the facts of the UK right, you clearly have no place commenting on any nationality/race/culture issue.
When are some people going to realise that England isn't Britain and Britain isn't England

Likewise, I'm ashamed to be Scottish when local biggots start hunting people out of villages just because they are English
Unfortunately, you get biggots and racists wherever you are in this world. People don't like differences; they never have. No wonder there's been so many wars and conflicts throughout history.

You are at the sole mercy as an individual to the head of our State which happens to be the Queen who is a representative of the CHURCH OF ENGLAND.
What is written in your passport you fool. What do you swear on in court. Who has made the law you live by ? Who's face and declaration is on your money.
It has no relevance what religion you are as it counts for nothing you as an individual will do exactly what the current Monarch of the Church of England says you have no choice.
If you goto prison who's prison to you goto ? The popes if your catholic Wrong Her Majesty's. Who enpowers the Judges who is in complete control of all our armed forces and yours in Scotland too.
Face it the Queen is the big enchillada and everyone in England, Ireland ,Scotland and Wales are her subjects like it or lump it.

Ozzy,
Well put mate, my sentiments exactly.
To me, being "British" should be about allegance, not who or where you worship, or what your ethnic background is.

TelBoy, you can't.
But if I decided to emmigrate to another country I would accept that I should learn about their cultures, learn their language and if serious enough to spend the rest of my life there would have to accept allegiance to their country and head of state.
If anyone wants to become a British citizen they should do the same IMHO.
Unfortunately, life's not that simple hence why we have so many problems and hatred.

You ****. The Queen may be representative of the Church of England, but that has no bearing on me. Just because she assumes certain roles in her position doesn't mean those roles are imparted upon the rest of us.
And I am certainly not at her sole mercy either.
I abide by the law of Scotland. I would Swear in Court on the Holy Bible as a Christian. As far as I know the Bible wasn't written by, nor is it the sole preserve of the Church of England.
What is written in my passport is "British". That has **** all to do with religion, and therefore **** all to do with the Church of England.
The laws I live by are written by civil servants, passed by parliament and simply rubber stamped by the Queen.
So before you start spouting off, you could at least get your facts, your understanding of the law and your understanding of religion correct.
It has no relevance what religion you are as it counts for nothing you as an individual will do exactly what the current Monarch of the Church of England says you have no choice.
Just how misguided are you? for one the Queen is not Monarch of the Church of England. Secondly, her position has no legal bearing on my chosen religion.
Whether or not the queen is head of the Church of England has no relevance whatsoever to her position with non Church of England members - in law or otherwise.
She is the the Queen and head of State, not the Church.
